Great cast, a well told legal drama. Thinking backwards from 5 stars: Minus half star for a subpar soundtrack, minus half star for the way in which the final strategy is revealed to the audience before it happens, and half star for the way that in the beginning, Jo is the strong female lead fighting to find the truth and not take the easy way out, but is quickly pushed into the background by Cruise’s character and doesn’t really get much credit for her part.
I think I was born too late to fully appreciate Jaws. I grew up with too many Jaws music parodies and visited too many aquariums with shark facts explaining what Jaws got wrong. That aside, it’s a fun movie. Also — a movie about the mayor of a city allowing more people to die to protect economic interests of the city — way too soon.
The trailers were awful for this, so I’m glad I finally got around to watching it. What a powerful movie. The slow burn, strong pauses, lack of soundtrack for full attention to the crashing waves and crackling fire all add up to a really great love story.
