Back in the day, gay men didn't like it because it was another tragic gay story at a time when there was no positive gay representation. Straight men were uncomfortable with all the male nudity and didn't like that a masculine icon like Al Pacino was going undercover as gay. Nowadays, it's seen as an underrated classic, and a snapshot of the NY gay scene (apparently, everybody looked like Lou Reed back then)…
