Definitely the best Shyamalan movie in years, but still has the same cringe dialogue that makes me want to crawl out of my skin. It also felt really long for a movie with a runtime of only an hour and forty minutes which is never a great sign. I wasn’t expecting a slasher or anything, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of kills. However, was totally worth it for Josh Hartnett alone, he was surprisingly hilarious and stole every scene. I would go so far as to call this a horror comedy.
I’m a huge fan of Mike Flanagan which is why it makes me very sad to say I didn’t enjoy this. On a technical level, this was well-shot and well-acted. Unfortunately, I found this to be incredibly self-indulgent with a frustratingly unsatisfying conclusion.
