Decently layered and nice chronology for the time given
The “shoot me” scene is maybe one of the most haunting images you’ll find in American cinema, That stuff stays in your head. The illumination of her face only worsens it. Both halves have their value and pull their weight, Kubrick really was on another level.
In many ways this film reminds me of shrek, perfect characters, perfectly paced, timeless. Every time I rewatch Star Wars I find something new, this time it was darth Vader's eyes under the suit and Han Solo doing up his collar at the medal ceremony, the only time he ever does it up, also in the trash compactor on the giant metal pole han uses to try to jam the compacting, there’s some awfully obvious bubble wrap stuck onto it
Literally just two episodes smushed together. The opening sequence was so poor it actually terrified me, luckily the rest wasn’t quite that bad. Dialogue was clunky throughout and there were an awful lot of plot conveniences which saw my respect for the film deplete a bit more every time they happened. Voice acting performances too were lacklustre at times with Jeremy Allen white and pedro being the main offenders. It wasn’t all bad though I thought the set pieces, character…
