didn't win me over, but was pleasantly surprised at the stuff about turning into your mother in a lesbian relationship. wish it did more with that tho! but also, im not sure id reasonably expect something like this to do so.

on that note, really needed a tighter focus, more drafts of that script etc. those 2 hours feel like 3 hours, not least bc of multiple fakeout climaxes. some of the Big Plotting felt kinda ramshackle for something that took so much of the runtime... why didnt they just stop her from going in the video game.

very pretty tho, and plenty of funny faces.

came in halfway thru but i think it was kinda awesome. ridley scott used to get weird & dreamy with it. the foggy, wet dungeons, the massive thick pillars, low ceilings, the lighting, all feels so strongly of a piece with blade runner & alien... he used to be a different director...

people have been arguing about the legitimacy of its influence on zelda for forever, but i think at the very least it influenced katsuya terada's illustrations.

i do wanna watch this again from the start with the tangerine dream soundtrack

the fact that i (noted musical hater) loved this despite its musical theatre theming should speak volumes. those aspects feel intentionally half-formed & incomplete in a really satisfying way, and aided thoroughly by beautiful shot composition and artfully dreamy direction.

but really i was sold from the extreme wide shot of a criss-crossing brutalist covered bridge structure, while two characters talked. i love cities
