Yes, I'm just as surprised as the rest of you! The Lorax and Minions co-director Kyle Balda makes the jump to live-action filmmaking with remarkable grace as evidenced by The Sheep Detectives, which is not only a sincerely charming, funny, unexpectedly clever blend of talking animal comedy and murder mystery thriller but also a weirdly mature and moving story about the importance of memory and the inevitability of death, backed up by engaging performances across the board. The winter lamb subplot was a more faithful Animal Farm adaptation than the actual Animal Farm adaptation we got this year.
