What is exactly scary about the concept of 'backrooms'? Why has it become such a phenomenon, both on the internet where it originated, then a web series, and now finally a feature film? I don't think it's because there's a scary monster chasing you through these endless, identical, hallways. It's fear of the unknown, of the liminal, of the spaces between. It's the uncanny valley, in object form.
