Redux Redux

When the message of your film is how only love and growth can heal tragedy instead of hate and apathy, you know you're making the right kind of movie. To be able to tell that message in a film that features half a dozen genres, some visceral moments of brutality, soft-science time-travel concepts, and arthouse-style, subtle dramatic moments, then you're definitely doing it the right way, too.

Redux Redux certainly has its fans from the film festival circuit last year, but the lack of fanfare for its release to the mass market feels like a missed opportunity to trumpet this new age genre classic.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc

One of the best stories of the manga for Chainsaw Man rightfully makes its way to the big screen, and it's worth every rip-roaring minute of its screen time. Gorgeously animated, impeccably paced, and heart-wrenchingly emotional at its core, Reze Arc is everything great about the first season of Chainsaw Man trimmed for artistic and tonal punches and cuts.

Grave Encounters 2

Watched it back-to-back with Grave Encounters and adored it this time. Takes some wild swings with its offbeat take on the Blair Witch 2 bend around, making the first film a "film" in this one, and I appreciate it so much more. There's just an oddity to this one that takes some of the cosmic horror elements of the first and goes to the next level, surprising in some ways, and definitely abrasive in others, in how it treats its predecessor. For me, it worked in ways I did not expect, and I am totally willing to eat my words in my previous review.

Truly one of the best found footage horror films for me. I love the strange and satirical bend that the film starts with that creeps into legitimate and cosmic horrors by the end. Some of the jump scares can be a bit predictable, but there are some fun performances and great bits of horror that really utilize the style well.

The segment known as Amateur Night in the original V/H/S film was easily one of the highlights of film and when it was announced that it was being developed into a full film, I was all for it. Adding to that hype was getting Gregg Bishop to direct it, who was easily one of the names to watch after the hilariously fun Dance of the Dead back in 2008. The only thing that killed some of my excitement was that…

Fincher, you mad genius bastard! Only he could take a film like this and make into a riveting, roller coaster emotional thriller that has even the most intelligent of movie goer leaning whatever which way he wants them to go. It's intoxicating in its subtlety, brimming with impressive performances, and challenging in its delivery. Bravo, good sir.
