Prime example of “the book was better” and “read the book first.” 

Sadly, Stephen King wrote the teleplay for this multiple times and the final draft still wasn’t good. He cut sooo much of the important character development out that I didn’t care or know about anyone. Thanks to the book, I knew enough backstory to get by, but the film should be able to “stand” (lol) alone.
