Okay, the movie is occasionally pretty funny…

This played like a parody of movies like Seven and Hereditary. So fucking goofy. Honestly when the movie ended I wasn't sure if this wasn't a Malignant-type, tongue-in-cheek send up.
Taken straight, its too much a Fincher-knockoff investigation procedural for the nonsensical weirdness to work the way that it might have in a movie that fully committed to dream logic. This refusal to fully commit also extends to the acting. Its like the director chose at random every third actor…
The first time I watched it I went in all geared up for R rated vampire goodness and ended up feeling a little bit “when do they get to the fireworks factory” during the first half . And then the movie ended and I realized that the first half was where the movie was at its best.
