the exact tone and cadence of a very bad off-broadway play. anne hathaway gives an amazing performance that deserved a much, much better movie.

man, this movie has some exciting filmmaking going on. lots of great camera work and visual storytelling.

the first 40 minutes is a daring artistic pastiche that asks the important question- what if a political revolutionary was the embodiment of every negative black female stereotype, and also generally just the worst person ever?

once that's been posited, there's this ensuing ho-hum thriller that hinges on it's ability to be propulsive and funny and fails to do either.

there's a great shot during the final car chase, where the camera dips up and down with the road's minor hills and valleys, bringing the car ahead in and out of view, building tension. A+ for that one. everything else is deeply forgettable.

look, I know it's sort of an "oo-la-la" opinion, but this really is Tarantino's best.
