Too Much – Melodrama on Film: Hiraeth

In Wales we have an inclination towards big feelings. Songs at rugby games make the toughest men cry on the terraces; passionate political speeches; poems composed on hillsides; a cwtch from loved ones – not a mere hug. The melodramatic is part of Welsh culture.

Out of Their Depth

Following the cultural upheaval and racial tensions of the 1960s, the early ‘70s saw America increasingly in social and political turmoil as opposition to the Vietnam War grew more violent following revelations of the brutality of American forces whilst at home the full scale of the Watergate scandal was beginning to be revealed. The certainties of modern American values were not only tarnished they were found to be mired in corruption, scandal and lies.

4k restoration @ chapter arts centre cardiff

Watched today, surrounded by family at a private screening in Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre.
I feel honoured to have seen it this way.
What a spectacular piece of cinema.
So unexpectedly funny, and deeply emotional.
Outstanding.

omg cardiff!! i know cardiff!!! we love to see it!

A film made in 1929 still feels entertaining, artful and skilful. Love the abstract plot, shots, music and the man.

Glad to have watched it at Chapter, Cardiff, during the Ukraine Film and Cultural Festival

Hosted a really fun Evolution of Horror screening at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff and it was as brilliant with an audience as I'd expected. A genuine honour to show this singular 80s banger on the big screen.
