A 3 star film bumped up half a star solely because of the masterful acting of Smith, Dench and Margolyes. But my favorite part of the film has to be it's mention in Miriam Margolyes' autobiography "THIS MUCH IS TRUE" where she reveals that Maggie Smith's name for the film was "LAVENDER BAGS"!!!!

Some really beautiful artwork as mankind destroys itself. And only cartoon animals survive. So, yeah, a happy ending!
I have to agree with the other negative reviews of this film; it is possibly one of the most unpleasant movie watching experiences I've ever had. Others have commented that it was like a horror film where a brutish bully torments a woman until he finally breaks her. For me, it was like watching a rape in slow motion; but with the added unpleasantness of the filmmakers' attitude that we were apparently supposed to find a lot of the proceedings…
