Imagine Searching for Bobby Fischer with the moral compass of The Wolf of Wall Street. Not about talent so much as it is about the kind of ego that survives entirely on its own mythology.

It is 1am and I can’t sleep but I am thinking about this movie, which I watched in theatres many years ago. If you asked me when I watched it, I probably would have said I hated it but i think about this movie often. Giving a pile of cash a viking funeral, living only for your whims and writing poetry is a vibe.

You cannot beat that scene in the sound booth. This movie needs to be more lauded than it is.

My 2 year old insists on watching this and this only. ‘Play spooky Jack’ she says. Anyway at watch #10 i think it might be an allegory for coming out and at watch #20 i think it is kind of wild that the whole premise is a man who is really good at something and wants a change only to mess it up for everyone else in the most self-centred delusional way and ends up facing very little actual consequences.
