For as acclaimed and legendary this movie is, it can feel mundane at times. Which is also why it works so well. Dylan is a notoriously morose guy who also possesses an undeniable allure in his unmatched genius. He’s at times not as deep as he thinks he is, but none of that seems to matter when he starts singing.

Hard to not love this movie. It was my third watch and it’s a lot quieter than I remember. There’s some real poetic beauty in those long sequences of Llewyn wandering, hobbling, through long open stretches. Stretches that feel open in a haunted or hunting way. Among the most thorough empathetic brutal and profound documents of American History that I’ve seen on film. Watching this movie reminded me of my trip to the African American museum in DC a week ago. At the museum, they detail the brutal conditions of the slave trade and slavery.
