I can sum this movie up by saying every plot point or “bit” feels like a 20 minute scene, pacing wise. This is great when it comes to the epic fight scenes and truly masterful handle on animation and creative effects. My jaw was on the floor for a lot of the visuals. It also gets quite dark in some scenes and doesn’t flinch away from letting you steep in the darker moments.

Saw this last night and have been pondering it since. I feel good about this being a solid 4/5 for me, though I will admit this hit some personal favorite concepts: creepy cute aliens, dark comedy, a beautiful romance based on mutual respect and a sense of friendship, and engaging sci fi concepts/worlds with a dash of philosophy regarding the concept of the self.
