I had watched this originally for a Spanish cinema course in college. Would love to revisit it, as it centers an intersex protagonist from Argentina whose self-determination is both suppressed and strengthened at each step of the way. It was a painful watch, but one I highly recommend.
A breathtaking film that I feel the need to vigorously defend every time it’s brought up.
Inside the beautifully shot film is a love story as realistic as any, fraught by clashes of class, propriety, and desperation.
The final scene breaks my heart every time, but so too did the universe that brought Adèle and Emma together. As together, so apart.
