The music was great, the vibes were cool, and I liked the movie. But it has the least stakes ever in a film.

1. Brittany Murphy is incredible for the duration
2. This is very possibly the worst movie I have ever seen

The Drama

A clever idea for a short story, but not scripted or filmed to be in any way interesting to me.

I was loving the vibe for the first 20 minutes or so, but then nothing else happened until the last 5 minutes. Why didn't they make the middle of the movie have any content?

Cute and fun. The plot was as choppy as the schlock it paid tribute to, so it didn't matter much. Really cool carousel of practical effects to tie everything together. Great nostalgia piece.

Galaxy Express 999: Can You Love Like a Mother?!!

My original-run Galaxy Express 999 project comes to a close with this, the final thing I hadn't seen on the TV Blu-ray set. For this one, they chose an episode with a good story, but then there wasn't very much footage added because they had much more recap footage up front. I understand why, this aired around episode 90 of the run and is a re-run of episodes 51-52, but it is also another catch-up point for people that otherwise…

F Valentine's Day

It's hard to rate this because it is simultaneously the best and worst movie ever made.

- Worst script and plot you've ever seen
- Skylar Astin's jet black hair is definitely natural and not dyed
- There is a shot where a picture frame has a photo digitally inserted into it
- There are a bunch of AI slop pizzas pasted flatly into pizza boxes
- MARISA TOMEI FILMED THE ENTIRE MOVIE APART FROM THE REST OF THE CAST…

Now we're talking. Take a cool episode with a cool character, expand it with extra footage of her kicking ass, and you've got a special for an off week. Still some incomprehensible beats in the basic plot of the original episode, but still stands as a top episode of GE999.

Very cute, and with a beautiful setting. Kim Coates and Alyson Hannigan are the kind of power couple I didn't know I needed. Was amazed that the main Italian lady didn't even speak English when she was working on this. Worth your time on a quiet evening, especially watching with your sweetie.

Galaxy Express 999: Can You Live Like a Warrior!!
★★ Watched

Aired when the show was around episode 50, and is an expanded version of episodes 12-13, with an intro to the series up front. Obviously intended as a catch-up back in the days where you couldn't easily rewatch the beginning of a show you jumped on late.

That said, they picked a really bad pair of episodes to use, as bad as it got in the early days. The back half of the show is full of episodes as bad…

Adieu Galaxy Express 999

Even more beautiful than the first movie, in visuals and music. I hope I can get this on 4K at some point, to bask in.

But the movie's story is the dirt worst. I wouldn't have liked it after only seeing the first movie, since it is a total re-do of the plot of that one. But after 113 TV series episodes, I do not believe that Rintaro gets the core of Galaxy Express. Too many things blowing up, not enough focus on the core question of humanity.

So perhaps my future viewings will have the subtitles turned off, for full immersion.
