I liked the film a good amount. It’s more Raimi in his Drag Me to Hell era than OG Evil Dead, but there are occasional stylistic choices that nod to his days as a young director. There are a few moments that are a little too cheesy, like the part with the CG on the boar, but the massive amount of blood was a funny payoff. The movie is fun and stupid and much more schlocky than its contemporary of Point Break. You gotta love Wesley Snipes for going all in on the goofiness and the action. I had a fun time. It is pretty obnoxious when you spend time with the parachuting culture and the “tough guys” that inhabit it. You would think they took their personalities from the arm wrestlers in Over the Top. That’s pretty dumb, but it’s still decently fun to watch.
Look. I gotta be transparent here. I’ve never liked Superman as a character. I hate near-invincible characters. So - much to my surprise - I found myself immediately intrigued by the film when the damn thing opened with Superman almost dying after a fight with a flying, Eastern European Juggernaut. It’s a really fun story with some interesting use of film footage and re-enactments. Though there wasn’t a lot of meat on the bones of Zach’s story, the analysis of what Ponzi Schemes are and how Zach followed the playbook and didn’t have the foresight to avoid the common mistakes of those schemes was fantastic. Dude sucked. Never trust anyone who has anything to do with a Joker fan film.
