Losey’s directing and blocking is nothing but perfect. however the lack of depth for the female characters left a bitter taste in my mouth, while the film focuses on the ridiculousness and fragility of male ego it should have shown that women are more than objects of desire and prizes to contrast their vision with reality

i was promised women being cool and ditching men instead i got women bending over backwards for terrible men excusing it with how women are just “more sensible” than men, sacrificing our lives, dignities and love for a few words of praise but it is a product of its time so idk what i expected

a supposed masterpiece turns out to be racist and orientalist, portraying arab women as exotic sensual creatures for the viewer to lust over and the arab men as barbarians and calling them “walking bed sheets”
(the star is only for marlene dietrich’s and gary cooper’s looks)
