Frenchman's Creek

Just a delight from start to finish. Sure, the ending was expected but it made sense. I wish Dona did stay with the Frenchman though. He was so charming and not at all fake about it either.ย

Joan Fontaine was brilliant as the adventure-seeking Dona St. Columb. The role seemed to fit her like a glove. Basil Rathbone was perfectly slimy too, leaving me to wonder if he had ever played Richard III at any time. That role would haveโ€ฆ

Iโ€™ll look back on this film in the future as the point in where my love for Olivia de Havilland began. After all, thatโ€™s who I came for & in my quest to broaden my horizons beyond my dear Ingrid Bergman, Iโ€™ve fallen in love with somebody else too. Journey to Italy

Beautiful Italy, beautiful Ingrid to the soundtrack of George Sandersโ€™ crisp bass voice. It sounds like something wonderful but itโ€™s not quite how Iโ€™d describe this film. How can a film about the collapsing of a marriage be wonderful, after all. Instead, Iโ€™ll leave the praise and long essays about this film to the experts and simply call it brilliant.ย

Nothing actually goes on. There are no fireworks, no explosions, not even any tears. Their hard English shells forbid that.โ€ฆ

The only reason for a TARDIS - to make sure more Ingrid Bergman & Cary Grant films were made. In fact, more Ingrid in comedy!

Absolutely lovely & charming romance. I could watch it over and over.
