Struggling to parse where exactly the Playhouse exists relative to the Herman manor so clearly established in the intro sequence. Are Pee Wee's many furniture friends and intrusive neighbors simply figments of his vivid imagination or does he just live in California during the winter when the Playhouse gets too cold?

A big gay adventure with incredible performances from Hugo Weaving and Terrance Stamp a decade before dorks like me knew them as Elrond and Chancellor Valorum. Some things play more subtly than others but overall finds it's voice and footing by the time the credits roll. Features a better Mamma Mia needledrop than Mamma Mia! and I mean that unironically. Thoroughly Australian, love the idea of a pre-woke humble bogan gentleman.

Incredibly satisfying in the theater, especially a packed house. Rose-Depp gives a full-body performance I never would have expected from her other work, massive kudos. Dafoe is unexpectedly restrained in this but still shines, and Hoult gives maybe my favorite performance of his I've seen here (mostly because he isn't playing a smug prick for once). Atmospheric as hell and maybe the most well-shot thing released this year, I'll be thinking about the cityscape shadow hand for a long time.…
