evil, evil, fucked up, and evil movie. some great filmmaking in here but there is a very nasty and sinister pessimism that underscores the whole film. i think at its core the movie puts forward a really colonial and sexist outlook of the world that i struggle to grapple with. for better or for worse i think it is just very nasty!! there are times when i feel like it uses that to its advantage in reconstructing a golden age…
