Rewatched for this for like the 30th time because I’m sad about Catherine O’Hara & my girlfriend has never seen any Christopher Guest movies. Has been & will probably always be one of my all-timers. My favorite part of this particular watching experience was my gf telling Buck Laughlin is her favorite character.

As a person who actually does engage with the UFC & MMA, I can say with certainty that even a laser-focused biopic should have something to say about the sport’s impacts on the participants’ bodies, minds, & souls. It isn’t an easy life, & this barely scratches the surface of how the impacts of that kind of athletic performance bleed over into every part of living all the time. This was such a fun ride. I really loved the way the lesbians are given the upper hand in every moment of this film. “I used to love the unfettered free market” will go down as one of my favorite movie lines, I’m pretty sure. A fucking film, man. This shit grabs hold of you & doesn’t let go. Everything about it from the grunge of the set design to the sex & death to the turn to surrealist fantasy to the way Glass & crew incorporated elements/perceptions of bodybuilding & what a bodybuilder’s life looks like….fucking sublime. Not to mention, it’s also funny as hell?? How DOES she do it! I want to watch it 100 times more.
