Hits way harder in your mid 30s.
I thought I loved this movie as a kid… turns out it’s even better on a rainy Saturday morning with your pup snoring on your lap while you sob nostalgic tears.
Glad I saw this when I was young so I knew to cherish my “Sandlot” summers when I got to live them on the summer camp baseball field
Maybe I had higher hopes based on the story, director, and lead but felt like too many jumbled ideas and allegories in one. And I couldn’t tell if I was annoyed by or laughed at mark ruffalos space Trump.

Like the title, this movie has some really high highs but some lows too. Ultimately, it’s Spike Lee telling a NY story with amazing performances from Denzel and Jeffery Wright reimagining the work of the legendary Kurosawa.
An uneven start and questionable performances from supporting characters were easily overshadowed for me by Spike Lee making NYC his cinematic playground with some amazing (and authentic) set pieces, scenes where Denzel shows why he’s a legend, and the way it explores wealth…
