I never really got into extreme horror, it's not something I avoid it's just not something you watch every day, and I do try to watch everything. Still, I'm surprised by how much I loved this movie. Obviously this was a dark and distressing watch but I didn't expect the first half of the movie to be so, exciting, if you can call it that. The second half though is what gets the people talking of course, and I can…

This film is recommended to me by DeepDarkDebt09 in the Film Collective Discord by the roulette event, thanks for that. When I first saw this I didn't expect a movie like this to be so beloved even now. A melodramatic campy movie from the 60s about old ladies bickering. Satoshi Kon's final feature-length film, after his most accesible entry, this time he drops almost all pretenses in making a conventional plot with normal things happening and just decided to go crazy. People can go into other people's dreams! There's parades of inanimate objects and dolls! Dreams can mix with each other! The movie is named after a literal manic pixie dream girl who also loves movies! There's aurafarming middle-aged men! Anything can happen! It goes without saying at this…

This was a very entertaining film, I laughed quite a lot in this which I didn't expect. The action setpieces which are pretty scarce, are just fantastic. Of course it all looks amazing too. Unfortunately even with all the positives, unlike virtually all the other Akira Kurosawa movies I've seen this one doesn't feel like it justifies the runtime. This is less of a knock on the movie and more of an immense praise for the director's insane body of work. This is my least favorite from him? Wow.
