Kids pick up the darnedest things

The scene: a family at a skating rink.

Kid: How did it go, daddy?

Dad: Well, I though I did pretty well, but one of the mommies called me an asshole.

Mom: (good-naturedly) Huh, well, I don't think you're an asshole. I think you're a really nice person.

Kid: (indistinct) asserole.
tea break

Just to keep a few things clear

palate: the roof of your mouth; also a metaphor for one's taste in food (even though that's your tongue's job) or other matters

palette: an artist's tool for mixing paint; by extension, a range of colours or other artistic options

pallet: a wooden platform used when things are transported by a forklift

And while I'm at it:

cache: a stored quantity of things; a stash (with which it rhymes)

cachet: appeal, allure, aura of desirability; pronounced 'cash-ay'

caché: hidden; a word you can use in French
