I use this name in a few different places. I have another one somewhere else, and a third in person. Here, I prefer to be Lebannen, even if you do know one or both of the others. If you want to know why, ask and I'll try to explain it to you.

This place is, for me, mainly about the porn and chocolate. It contains links, references, etc to material which some people may find offensive, or at least surprising. If you're under eighteen, please don't look too closely, as there is bound to be something you shouldn't get caught looking at - but then, this is Livejournal, what did you expect?

If you are someone who knows me elsewhere, under this name or avatar, or if you think you know me in person, it would be great if you'd leave a note to say hi - anonymous comments are possible if you don't have a livejournal or don't want me to know your LJ name, and all comments will be screened so that no-one else can see them.

So. I have bought many BPAL imps! And as is often the way, it turns out that some of them are really not for me. If you would like any of them to belong to you instead, I am open to swap or sell them.

List in here )

I made a BPAL wishlist, which unfortunately was mostly composed without really knowing what all that many things actually smell like. So I basically have gone for 'things that sound cool'. There seems to be a definite 'spice and wood' theme running through it. I may turn out to hate this, as the commerical perfumes that I have recently tried and not hated are called 'Wood sage and sea salt', and [one that's very light citrusy ocean type thing]. Suggestions are welcome?

It seems I have never updated this journal. First time for everything, so.

[personal profile] synecdochic started talking about perfume, specifically about BPAL, and it all seemed very interesting. Other people talking about BPAL mentioned that a lot of their products are nice-smelling things that don't just smell like perfume (other people said that a lot of commercial perfumes just smell like perfume! I feel significantly less alone and faily-at-girl-stuff! I really did think it was pretty much just me!). One thing lead to another and lo and behold, I have jumped down the rabbit hole and spent the best part of £100 on perfume. And about half of it (half so far, anyway; the other half is still on order) pretty much smells like perfume, but the other half has some interesting bits in.

BPAL seems to charge an awful lot for shipping to the UK, and has a ridiculously huge selection of scents, most of which lead me to go 'I don't know, that sounds interesting but I have never heard of some of those notes, and don't know what half of the rest smell like anyway'. So I was feeling a bit stuck, not really wanting to pay the international postage on a small order, but also not wanting to get a huge order in case they were all terrible and smelled like perfume or like rotting death (which is apparently a common theme in things that are meant to smell like flowers; once upon a time I had a bottle of something from the Body Shop that as far as I was concerned, smelled like really nice narcissi, but which my roommates assured me really didn't). And then [personal profile] synecdochic ran a decant circle for the Only Lovers Left Alive Limited Editions, with veryvery cheap international postage. (And I found out that if you import anything valued over about £15 into the UK, you are supposed to pay VAT + an £8 fee).

[going to post this now and edit later before damn computer crashes again due to not liking being transported]

If you don't read [livejournal.com profile] news or [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz, this probably won't make much sense. So go and read this lj_biz post. Or if you don't want to read it all, the short verion is that LJ has created a new security feature thing to filter material which is potentially NSFW / not appropriate for the kiddies. This may affect the way you can see or access posts on LJ, including the way some posts show up on your flist.

Part of the lj_biz post says (emphasis mine):
How Will This Affect My Search Results?

There are three Safe Search filtering options, which are as follows:

Use Moderate Filtering (default setting): Filters only explicit adult content.
Use Strict Filtering: Filters both adult concepts and explicit adult content.
Do Not Filter Results: All search results will display, including those marked as explicit adult content and adult concepts.

You can change your search settings on the Settings page.
Don't know about you, but I take exception to people making new defaults that limit the information I receive. So I went off to the Settings page to change it. And when I got there, I found a whole new feature not mentioned at all in the lj-biz post. It looks a little something like this:
Viewing Adult Content Collapse adult-oriented material written by other users: [Dropdown menu offers the following options: Do not collapse / Collapse explicit adult content only / Collapse adult concepts and explicit adult content]
If you do not have an appropriate birthdate on file in your Profile, this will be set to the most restrictive option, with the other two greyed out. Fixing this allowed me to see a post on my flist without the auto-generated 'adult concepts' cut-tag; I don't know what the default setting is for people with a birthdate on file.

I can see how this might be a handy feature to have, in that it auto-cuts potentially NSFW posts for those who read their flists in public / at work, but I'm not impressed with the way it's been implemented by default.

So, let's see if I can write some tags without cutting and pasting anything (it really helps not to write "lj-cute", for starters)...

There should be a couple of pictures in here )

So yes, I have a new camera, it's not fantastic but it was cheapish and means I can photospam you on a daily basis, aren't you lucky?

oh, whoops, off islandsitting again. Will possibly be online there this time, if I've been left the dialup instructions. Othjerwise, will be vaguely around at ... vague times, for the next ... while. umm. Until the 27th? something like that. have fun.

gosh, a very simple meme! I might be able to do it!

My journal is called... )

... and if it's so simple how come this is the second third edit? Oh yes, that'd be because I clearly can't type today. Le sigh. *headdesk*
lebannen: needlepoint compass rose (piraticon)
I have a new icon! clicky for more detail of what it is )

Sort-of (but not really) relatedly, someone is trying to sell cross-stitch patterns of SGA characters on eBay. 170*230 stitches, which works out at over a foot tall. In cross-stitch. Which is mostly background (or don't you do background in cross-stitch? I don't know). That's - oh god, I just checked - that's a lifesize picture of Sheppard. At 14 dpi. and somebody has bid on it.

More SGA - how did I not notice that Caldwell is the former AD Skinner? I'd read fic predisposing me not to like him before I ever saw the show, and then on sight suddenly found it impossible to hate him but without recognising him.

aaand I'm sure there was something else.
lebannen: self with hat and camera (Fangirl)
hmm, someone has a birthday today. woe, for I have no card to give. I hope you have cake and pie instead, and maybe a new home. many, many thoughts and hopes for a happy birthday, cee-est x
lebannen: self with hat and camera (hat)
I now have glasses. I've never had glasses before. I think I'm possibly the only person on my flist that didn't - ok, some of you I don't know about ... oh, hang on, Anna? Oh, well, anyway, I am now joining the glasses-owning section of the population. Only problem is that I don't have the glasses yet, as they are in the post (hopefully, anyway). And I can't read the screen on this computer too well. and it's not my computer, so I can't go fiddling with the brightness to see if that's part of the problem, as well as having the screen in a completely diferent place to what I'm used to. This means I can't read fic right at the moment. THIS IS ANNOYING ME.

My laptop has been sent away and taken into an Apple store and been sent away from there too and will hopefully be back from them end of next week and hopefully be back with me by the end of the following week. Maybe then I'll stop whining, or, at least, cut it down a fair bit.

... this is a public post, so any lurkers please note, my personal circumstances might be changing somewhat from January, and if they do I'll be going mostly friendslocked. Any photos I get round to posting will probably stay public, though.

So somewhere out there in the white-trimmed shades of grey out of the window is a boy who's just rowed across the Atlantic. Crazy boy. But, y'know, rather an achievement. Congratulations, Oliver Hicks!

It's a bit of a shame that his other support website spells its title wrong, and that both of them identify the finish line as "Bishop's Rock" when it's "Bishop Rock", but they don't seem to have any more obvious things wrong.

And my current music was a complete coincidence.

Little Brother, if you are looking for my lj, well done, you've found it. If that really was your uni friend's you were looking for, then fine, you're not going to read this.
lebannen: self with hat and camera (Fangirl)
Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] alienspacebat! I hope you have a wonderful day.
lebannen: self with hat and camera (Default)
There is more SoHW. I am going to read it again, and I am going to go to bed. Then I am probably going to read a bit of she.
And it is finally raining. I hope it does so for more than five minutes, because we really haven't had rain here, despite the rest of the country being hit by thunderstorms and flash floods and whatnot. And rain at night is always nice when you are indoors in the warm and want to sleep.

*blinks* my flist skip=20 has only 19 entries, and it give me links to the next and previous 19 entries. The links actually go to perfectly normal pages with 20 entries each. I'm confused, but then, I've been quite easily confusable today. *yawns*

You know you've been reading too much fanfiction when, in an Actual Published Novel, you stop and go OMGWTF WHY WASN'T THERE A WARNING FOR THIS? and it takes you a while to realise that most books do not in fact warn you explicitly that there is likely to be a graphic description of hideous torture ahead, especially when the author has spent quite a lot of the book mentioning the cloud of rumours surrounding Madame's household. This novel brought to you by the creator of Suraklin, the Alketch and the Rat-God would have worked, I suppose. So given that I know about them, yes, I should have been sufficiently warned. But none of them were so graphic - and none of them had a little historical note at the end of the book saying oh yes, that bit was real. probably. I'm not sure whether that made it worse or not, actually.

On a complete change of subject, I am mildly amused by the typo in the title of one of the books currently going through DP: Hymns for Christian devotion: especially adapted to the Universalist demonination.

so, I should have been reading serious things, but no, I've been watching the hitchhiker's guide - the tv series, of course, what with the absence of cinemas round here. I really don't know why they're showing it now, especially when I also caught the start of so long and thanks for all the fish on the radio earlier, but, anyway, that's what I've been doing. Now I'll go finish my ironing, oops.

There was a Labour candidate called Jack Davenport. How many people d'you suppose voted for him because they thought they recognised the name??

(why yes, I have been sat here for three hours hitting refresh on the BBC webpage, and yes, I do have to go to work in less than eight hours. and?)

I'm going to go sleep now.
