Professor Layton Winter 2012 Exchange IS OPEN!

Sign-Ups for The Professor Layton Winter 2012 Exchange are OPEN!

Oh hai. Sorry we started so late >_< I have been given the great honor to manage this year's exchange. I've never done anything of this sort before, so please do bear with me and mai n00bness. In case you haven't already noticed I practically copy-pasted this darn thing from last year ^^;

Sign-ups begin December 5, 2012 and end December 18, 2012 by midnight EST. Get your form in by then. Please join the community when you sign up, and be sure to read the FAQ to get the full scoop. Let me know if there are any questions/problems.

----------------------------------
Schedule of Events:

December 5-24, 2012: Exchange and Pinch-Hitter sign-ups. There will be no late sign-ups.

By December 25, 2012: All assignments sent out.

January 1, 2013: Defaulting deadline. Please let me know by this day if you are defaulting and cannot participate so that I can notify the pinch-hitters in time! Please understand that defaulting is not a good thing, so please avoid it. What is defaulting? See the FAQ.

January 10, 2013: ALL ASSIGNMENTS DUE.

By January 17, 2013: All Gifts will be emailed to their recipients. Gifts made for defaulters will instead be posted to the community. A post for Thank-You's will be made, as I don't wish to share everyone's personal emails publicly.

January 20, 2013: Gifts can now be posted to the community by their makers, if desired, at any point until the next Exchange begins.

Form explanation:

Name: Your LJ name/handle.

Email: So I can send you your assignment. Please make this an email address you can easily access, as I may have to email you more than once. I will NOT share your email with anyone. Your privacy is respected.

Type of Fanwork I Can Make: Anything creative, though we ask as a courtesy that at least one of your choices include Fanfic or Fanart.

I Don't Want to Make: This isn't the cue to repeat the type of fanwork above. I'm talking about pairing, rating, genre, kinks, situations, and stuff like that. For example, "I don't want to write Layton/Luke or anything that involves rape, murder, or cheese." Feel free to be as specific as you'd like, but if you make it difficult for us to match you, we may have to contact you and ask for help. You can put ratings here if you'd like, too.

I Don't Want to Receive: This can be the same as above, or totally different. It's the same concept.

Pinch-Hitter?: If you are willing to pinch-hit, please write "YES". If not, write "NO". Not sure what pinch-hitting is? Go here to the FAQ for an explanation :)

Spoilers Okay?: Will you be able to write/receive something involving characters from Unwound Future/Lost Future or Last Specter/Spectre's Flute? I will make the assumption that Miracle Mask is too new, and so spoilers for that game are NOT allowed. However, I will be making the assumption that everyone has played Curious Village and Diabolical Box/Pandora's Box.

Prompt 1: You can leave up to ten prompts, but only three are required. They can be similar or wildly different. Give as many as you like -- the more the better, though you are only required to receive and respond to one. But the more varied prompts you give, the easier it will be to match you to someone to write/draw/create for you.

Please, don't be too specific or too broad; some people find that intimidating. Saying "Anything!" sometimes leads to someone answering, "I can't think of anything!" And making a laundry list of things you want included can be just as difficult.

Prompt 2: See above.

Prompt 3: This is the last required prompt, but you can leave as many as 10.

Other Notes: Anything else you feel is important to tell me.

Thank you all! May we get a decent amount of participation this year :) Please let me know if there are any questions/concerns!

...Aaand end of copy-pasta! I need a LOT of help and guidance in the very likely event that I mess anything up >_< I will rectify it as soon as I can!

Looking for a new Co-Mod for this community!

Hello Laytonites,

I'm deeply sorry that I'd forgotten to send out an exchange invite for the Winter 2012 Holiday! I realize the time is drawing near and we usually have an exchange started by now, and so for that I am very sorry -- it's my fault for not organizing better.

That leads me to the main reason for this post -- I am currently going through an extremely rough time in my personal life which is eating up a great deal of my energy, and I'm afraid that I currently do not feel I am fit to run the exchange this year. I am terribly sorry; I realize I took over last year from the previous manager, and while I enjoy running it for sure, as of this point in time I do not feel I could dedicate the time it requires.

That being said, I am seeking a co-mod to help me out with it this year! If you are interested, please leave a comment and make sure your LJ is set to accept Private Messages so that I may contact you if I think you're a good fit. Obviously if several people volunteer I won't be able to pick everyone, so I hope that there will be no hard feelings that only one person will be selected!

I am hoping to find someone who is dedicated, fair, and willing to give their time to this. It helps if you are active in the PL comm as that way you're generally familiar with the fandom and its members :) The co-mod would be running the exchange this year in my stead, as I am simply unfit to manage that right now. I may take the mantle back up once things have settled down a bit, but for now, I could really use the help.

Thank you so much!

Winter Exchange deadline is approaching!

Hey dahlings,

Just a friendly reminder to let you know that the deadline for the Winter Exchange is coming up! January 10, 2012 is the deadline to get your submissions in. Since I got no defaulting notices I am assuming that everyone who participated is still involved, so you have about 2 weeks left to get those assignments in!

So far about half of the participants have gotten their assignments done and submitted, so we're nearly half-way home! Hoping to hear from the rest of you soon (via email)! :)

Layton Secret Santa Comm is now Layton Exchange Comm!

Hello Laytonphiles!

As mentioned in the previous post, the original maintainers of this community, dropsofviolet and sky_pirate_tat, have had to relinquish ownership of this community due to personal reasons. A call was put out to find a new owner, and since I very much enjoyed participating in the exchange prior, I offered to take up the reins.

So here I am :) Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm crazyhattrick, dedicated Layton nerd and shameless fan artist, and I will do my best to be a good and attentive community mod! I admit that I am completely new to this, so I'm sure it will take me some time to get used to running things around here, so please bear with me as I learn the ropes.

As a way to kick things off, I've decided to institute a bit of a change to this community. While this place was originally just a Layton Secret Santa Exchange held once a year during the holidays, I've decided to switch it into a more general Layton Exchange Community where we can hold various exchanges throughout the year as interest sees fit. By tradition we'll still continue to do the holiday exchange, but I'd love to add more if people are interested in doing so!

Please let me know if that's something you guys would like, and if so, I'm totally open to suggestions for various exchanges we could do for various occasions ("Just Because" counts too!). With fall in full swing now, and Last Specter looming very close on the horizon, I'll be working on getting the traditional Secret Santa exchange started up soon enough, so hopefully there will be some interest! :)

(no subject)

Hello, everyone.

Tat and I have run this exchange for 3 years, but we're both no longer in the fandom and also have more constraints on our time. Because I do not believe we can run this exchange with the attentiveness and dedication that it deserves, we would like to give up the community to another mod. If you're interested, please email us at layton.exchange@gmail.com.

Thank you for the past 3 years, which have been wonderful, and I hope you have many more exchanges in the future.

Suggestions/Comments Post

There's always teething troubles in an exchange, especially since this was the first fest for many of you fandom newbies! We'd love to hear your comments and suggestions for next year, anything from deadline changes to sign-up form changes to anything else you'd like to go on about. We wouldn't have an exchange without the participants, so we really want to hear what you think.

The only caveat I have for this post is that you do not under any circumstances bash your gift. I can't imagine why you would want to, but saying "don't match me with X next year!" is not a valid suggestion.

For anyone who wants to know what the matching-up process involved, it involved Tat and I sitting on my floor with several strips of paper and an Excel spreadsheet. Everyone had a different giver and recipient except one pair. For anyone planning their own exchange for any reason, you can't go wrong with Excel. That was one useful spreadsheet by the end of this.

Also I've been seeing people posting their exchange fic/art already, which is great! It's lovely to see it again. I fixed tagging capabilities so that you guys can create your own tags - please tag your entries with maker: yourname, recipient: theirname, rating: g/pg/etc, and fest: 2010. That makes my job much easier!

The comments are open for your words!
