I'm organizing a silent auction/dinner fundraiser for Lathrop Academic Decathlon and am trying to recieve donations. I know quite a few of you are alumni of AcaDeca so I won't bother you with the considerable benefits of the program. What I need is silent auction donations from yourself or a business you think would be willing to donate something. As always money would be worshiped but goods, services, or gift certificates would be just as welcome. If you have nothing to give but would still like to help out I need suggestions on local businesses or people who you think would be willing to donate goods or services. Bonus points if you could give me the name of whoever is in charge of donations in that company. Call me, Marie, at 590-sixteen twentytwo or respond to this post. Thanks so much for any help! -Marie

Grassi needs our money! If Atomic doesn't make more money before the start of next (college) semester, there will be NO FENCING! FYI: Grassi is the UAF Fencing Class instructor, UAF Fencing Club Sponsor, Lathrop History Teacher, and owns Atomic. If Atomic's profit does not increase, than he'll have to quit fencing. Please Help! Buy Christmas gifts, go play on their computers, try out console games with your friends (in the comfortable recliner chairs), and rent games and movies from Atomic Videogames! Support a locally owned and operated store.
Being that this Wednesday (17 May 2006) will be the last Formal Wednesday at Lathrop for many of us, I propose we make it very formal. I propose ball gowns and suits.
Hi, everyone! I'm an alum, class of 2001, and was just surfing around looking for info on the school when I ran across this journal. So, I guess I have a couple of questions for all of you so lucky as to be attending Lathrop...what's new? What's changed? How is high school amidst the frozen tundra? Is the school and the community still very arts oriented? Is the selection of clubs, activities and languages still as diverse as ever? Or are you all not far enough removed from the situation to give fair opinions yet? Thanks. Let me know.
So I have this theory that since Stitham left Lathrop, that the value of education has decreased greatly.
I'm looking at the more academically outgoing students in my grade (senior, for those of you who don'tw know), and realized that so many of them are jumping into the slacker end. I've heard stories of those people who took 5 AP classes their senior year and got that 5.0. Now, all the people that might have been validvictorian are taking only two classes that mean something (and some of the people are only taking two classes!).
Also, the lack of AP comparitive government makes me sad this year.
Any other thoughts about anything around these topics?
PS- Anyone else interested in becoming a moderater? I'm the only one now and days, considering Sedruce got a new journal, and doesn't keep up with this community.
Just thought I'd point out the end of the quarter is this Friday (October 21 for those keeping track). So do what I'm doing and turn in all of your work at one time!
This will go down as my first post in this community. Good stuff.
The Lathrop Talent Show (Lathrop Unplugged as it was called) was on Friday, October 14th. Overall, the whole show went well. I unfortunately didn't stay for the whole thing to know of everybody that placed, but I do know that the Lathrop Swing and Ballroom Dance Team took 4th with their Night Club 2 Step dance to "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. In 2nd place was Manny and another girl with a duet rap. And 1st place was taken by the polynesian dancers. There were people that I felt should've won something, but I'm not the judge unfortunately. If someone could fill me in on who took 2nd and so on that'd be kickin'.
International Friendship Day was held on Saturday, October 15th. There were a lot of performances, including the Lathrop High School Swing and Ballroom Dance team. There were also the breakdancers, who are past Lathrop-goers, salsa dancers, dancers that had the ability to balance glasses full of water on their heads, and many more. The food was really good too. You gotta love chinese food (at least that's what I was eyeing).
Upcoming events: 1) The LHS Swing and Ballroom Dance Team will be selling ham and crab very soon. If you are interested in purchasing some later (preferably from me seeing as I need to sell something this year :-P) you can call me (452-8541, ask for Chris), or leave a comment in my journal with contact info and I'll get back to you (I check lj pretty much everyday).
So, I had an idea awhile ago to start up a new club at school and just recently Mr. Grassi offered to sponsor us, so I thought I'd get it known here and see if anyone's even interested in the idea.
It's, basically, a club about religions and understanding beliefs that have been muddled with prejudices and just all-around learning about different denominations around the world and promoting religious tolerance.
This club won't really focus on the major religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism, but on lesser-known beliefs, such as (but most definitely not limited to); Rastafarianism, paganism, Satanism, Gnostisism, and others. It's a club promoting the broadening of one's mind and, of course, learning. There will be absolutely no pushing beliefs, this is simply an informational club for people who may have an interest in theology and feel like sharing thoughts with others with those same interests.
Well, that's my bit. The only time we have available for us now is Tuesdays at lunch, but we have no set date yet...reply if you feel you'd be interested!
I'm actually looking for anything kinda Paranormal that's happened in Fairbanks. I don't need information on Fairbanks Memorial or Chena Hotsprings though. Those you can find on sites online.
If anyone has anything freaky to tell that's happened around the Birch Hill rec area that would be awsome.
Reason I need it: I'm writing a novel and need to check to see if some of what I have would actually make sense. If I could get some accounts to refference it would be easier to freak out people.
Gods... You can tell I'm a hometown girl eh? It may take me a while to respond to you, I share the computer and it's my friend's night on. But I will get to you as soon as I can.
((Cross posted to my LJ, and most of the paranormal groups I'm in, on top of everything I'm in dealing with Fairbanks.))
