With your cherry lips and golden curls
WHO: Stephanie Brown and Lua Klein
WHAT: A haircut!
WHERE: Lua's Room
WHEN: Monday, Oct 1
WARNING(S): A very brief mention of fire?
Talking about things had very quickly become something that Steph was not very good at. The small patch of hair on the very back of her head that didn't match up with the rest of it wasn't too noticeable, she was sure, although when she looked in the mirror her eyes went straight to it like a laser tracking system. She just didn't want to ask if there was anyone who could cut it for her. She didn't want anyone to ask, and she didn't want to explain how her hair had gotten burned. The real trouble was that she couldn't just leave it alone, and she found herself messing with the spot constantly, which would only draw more attention to it.
And so she found herself going through the list in her head of who on the barge might be qualified to cut hair. Claudia seemed like someone who had probably cut her own hair before, but she was gone. Faith maybe, but she was gone too. Cass might have been a good choice if her eyes hadn't been hurt. Babs was an option, but the chances that she would want to have a heart to heart were a little too high. So, someone she wasn't really close to, then. There were a couple of girls that fit the bill that Steph thought she could probably trust with a pair of scissors near her head. First on the list just happened to be Lua.
She stood outside the door for a long minute, trying to figure out what to say. In the end she decided that she was worrying about it too much, took a deep breath, and knocked.

"Hey. You doing good?"

"Actually, I had a favor to ask. Have you ever cut someone's hair before?"

"I didn't want to make a big public thing of it, you know?"

"Thanks so much for this, Lua, you're really a life saver."

"I had this sort of bob haircut a few years ago, I was thinking that might be short enough and I know it looks okay."

"That's all I need really, it'll grow out soon enough." She just wanted it gone. And maybe she wanted a change, too. Things had been going wrong a lot lately and she needed to turn something around.

"I'm finally setting myself apart from the young blonde girl masses. There always were kind of a lot of us." Less, with Claire and Cissie and Kara gone. There were still a lot, though, and now she would be the one with short hair.

"It gets kind of confusing when you go home from time to time."

"And then there was that time where I was home for a week and came back and it had been several months." That was particularly nasty.

"And it's not like I can take him with me until he graduates."

"I hope not too long," she noted, thinking more for Kon's sake than hers. She would stay until Doyle either graduated or was reassigned, she wouldn't just abandon him, but Kon being a warden as well was a bit of insurance that would make things easier. If one of them disappeared, the other could hold the Admiral accountable.
"It's all just really complicated, you know?" There were powers at work that they couldn't control and some that they could. Her fears about the future only made it messier.
