Outdoor FAIL

Who: Capa and Crane
What: Two scientists...OUTSIDE
Where: The CES
When: Thursday Evening
Warnings: So. Much. Fail.

Capa was waiting for Crane outside the doors, his item around his neck. He was a bit apprehensive about all of this, but only because he had never done this kind of intensive study. There was a messenger bag hanging at his side, full of what he thought he might need during this little adventure with Crane.

And Crane. Well, the man wasn't an ideal partner for this, but Capa didn't mind him too much anymore. They might constantly complain at each other, but there wasn't as much maliciousness as there had been in the beginning, which Capa appreciated. He reached into his bag and pulled out his pen, leaning against the wall as he scribbled down a few preliminary notes. He wasn't sure what the CES was going to do, as he never really went in with a plan (in case that skewed results), so he just got what the Admiral gave.

Crane walked quietly up to the CES, sparing more than the occasional glance around him. He'd been ambushed up on the deck more than once. It was too public. Dangerously public. It was a the type of place where you went if you were asking to be attacked. But still, the entry to CES wasn't moving any time soon.

Seeing Capa outside the CES, Crane walked over to him, looking back across the deck as he did so. Thankfully, it appeared to be relatively empty of anyone who could be a threat. For the moment. If it wasn't for the fact that Capa was one of the few wardens that Crane didn't expect to stab him in the back, he probably wouldn't have even come.

"Hello. Are we going in?" Crane said once he was in speaking distance of Capa, with obvious impatience. They needed to get off the deck. Fast.

"It's better than waiting for Eames to make a spectacularly fast recovery." Crane stepped past Capa and into the CES. The chill was rather noticeable, but tolerable. Frankly, the fact that Eames had allowed this (presumably) indicated to Crane that he was probably on the road to getting his filters back.

Crane paused, looking up at the sky for a long moment. It was certainly manageable for what they intended to do. After a second he turned to Capa, frowning slightly. "Is it ever night in here?"

"I've never seen it like that." Crane snapped. He'd only been in the CES a handful of times. He spent a second looking in the general direction of the sun after Capa pointed. It really wasn't that long until sunset.

"Do you have any idea where you're going?" Crane asked, even as he followed Capa through the trees. If Crane were leading the way, he'd probably head downhill, betting that eventually they'd reach thinner trees and finally a clearing.

"No." Crane answered almost immediately. "Don't put me in the position of responsibility just because you didn't plan this well."

Although carving the notch into the tree was a good idea. Although Crane wasn't sure if flashing a knife around an inmate was the best of ideas. Then again, it could hardly do any more damage then the penknife that was currently in his desk.

Crane sighed at the mention of Capa not planning it at all. Surely he could have checked what the CES was like that morning before wandering in there to do research. As much as Crane didn't want to sound like Prefect, there could be legitimate dangers out here.

"I'm not an explorer, Capa." The most Crane could do with this environment was identify the occasional plant. "Just find a place."

"I hope so. I've never died in the CES before and I'm not keen to try it." Crane didn't sound amused. He wasn't about to elaborate on his suspicions of the Admiral not returning him to the barge, but he was very aware that it was a possibility.

This time, Crane heard the thunder. And he was absolutely sure that he was going to let the threat of rain deter him from their mission.

"Capa." Crane said, about the same time that Capa was flailing against a rather sneaky spiderweb. "I think we ought to head back. I don't want to be out here if it starts to rain."

It was becoming abundantly clear that neither one of them could deal competently with nature. The last thing they needed was a storm.

"You're right, Capa." Crane snapped, crossing his arms. "I can roam around the CES bored and wet."

Crane looked to the sky uncomfortably. He didn't trust the CES. There had to be a trick to this somehow.

Crane didn't reply to Capa's complaint directly, but his body language showed that he clearly wasn't happy.

"How long is this going to take, do you think?" Crane asked, still occasionally looking up to see what the sky was doing.

Crane sighed dramatically, but took the pencil and glanced over the numbers before begrudgingly looking around to write down some new figures. He spent a second without talking before looking back to Capa.

"Don't you ever worry that someone could ambush you in here? After coming into the CES after you?" Crane asked, voice deadly serious.

"Do you think that I'm paranoid?" Crane asked evenly, still writing down figures even as he said so. He was trying to ignore the fact that it was probably about to start to rain. He could let the weather prove his other concerns as being correct.
