Get Out Your Paintbrushes, Boys and Girls (ART ROOM TIME!)

Who: Holmes, his models (T-X, Drake, Sgt. Donowitz, and MYSTERY!), any interested students, observers, and anyone who feels like waltzing in to see what's going on and wants to crash the party.
Where: Art Room
When: Within a two week period of this post*
Warnings: Swearing (probably) and nudity (can you handle it?)

{OoC: *The dates for each session with a model (or Holmes demonstrating something or what have you) are not set in stone due to how hard it would be to work that all out. SO as long as you were around at some point during this time, feel free to say you were there. It's all very timey-wimey here.

Feel free to jump in any thread, or make your own. Talk to other students, bug Holmes, observe—Holmes needs to belittle a student horribly at some point, one who isn't a painter and can take the emotional abuse, so if you are interested in that let me know. This post covers only painting, as there is no music stuff in the art room yet, that will be next post. Lastly, don't worry about taking an age to get to this post, it's all together here to make it simple and easy to find but since it occurs over a span of time hit it up any time.

ETA: This is before Holmes becomes Evil Nanomite™ Holmes, unless you want his to be for a certain session, for extra funtimes.}

{This first session is Holmes covering the basics of sketching and paints. He'll be his least scathing at this one, so this is a good choice for the easily bruised. When you come in the room will be mostly tidy save for the section of floor nearest Holmes, which is quite littered with papers, many of which have been sketched on and not necessarily by him.}

[There's a very tiny woman in the corner that seems to have very little practice at this at all - heavens, she only learned to write with these fingers a few years ago, she has no idea how to use them to accurately depict perspective.

She's trying her damndest, though, hunched over the paper and with her tongue poking out of the corner of her mouth.]

{Holmes tilts his head when he notices that there is indeed someone behind the slightly tilted art table, a very little someone. He's not staring, not quite staring, as his flitting gaze of observation tends to be a little lighter than a stare. He hasn't seen her before, mainly because he's been ignoring the scary Network of Technology that comprises their communication system. He walks over to her, a rather severe expression on his face, studying her drawings.}

A first attempt, perhaps?

Oh...

[She sounds disappointed, and sits back to regard her... mess.]

Yes, I'm afraid so. I had hoped it might be a little easier to pick up, especially in a class.

{Still firm and strict, Holmes nevertheless holds off insulting her further.}

Indeed, you may yet. There are two things, very simple, that will improve your technique immensely. Firstly, sit up, as the need to stare so closely at the paper will not improve your drawing, and will in fact hinder your perception. Secondly, and perhaps more important, move the pencil with arm and shoulder, not your fingers. No one can learn to sketch if you are fighting your body to do it.

[She squirms into an upright position and carefully starts over, moving her her whole arm this time. The lines are much broader, but it's still not very accurate. At least her technique is a little better.]

{Holmes nods, expression fairly neutral.}

There. Now we might see a more accurate representation of your talent and promise, Miss. Might I ask your name? I am Sherlock Holmes.

Oh. [Giggle.] How very nice of you. I am Chromie. It's very nice to meet you, Mr. Holmes!

[She smiles up at him. Way up :|]

{Well. She might be a female, but she addressed him properly, which is more than he can say for about three quarters of this ship. For now, he will tolerate her.}

A pleasure. Is your interest in art a recent acquisition?

Well, it seemed like an interesting thing to study if I had an opportunity. Nothing bad ever came from expanding one's horizons!

That largely depends on the direction of said expansion. Regardless, art is an ideal pursuit for a lady. Not in vain, either, as your curves have already attained a more graceful flow. {He says as he traces his finger just above a recently drawn line on her paper.}

Oh, really? Thank you!

[She holds the paper at arm's length and squints at it.]

What were your pursuits before your arrival, if not art?

I was a sort of historian.

[Smiles up at him~]

What did you do, Mr. Holmes? Teach?

Ah, a very worthwhile pursuit. {Finally, a lady aboard with a proper vocation for one.} I did not teach, although instruction did seldom factor into my work. I am an independent investigator, and I most often aided the police force in their endeavours.

Ah, a solver of mysteries! You must be very entertained here. So many people with their own worlds and rules.

Of sorts, yes. While there is as much common about other people as there is about my own, this place has presented interesting puzzles and challenges. {Though not entirely enough for his liking.}

[She goes back to her drawing for a moment.]

Where did you learn to draw? In your business?

No, my business rarely required me to draw. I, briefly, considered that I might want to be a painter and devoted myself to serious study of the subject.

I don't think I'm ready for colors just yet.

It is recommended that a student master shading with pencils before attempting to do so with colours. In time, perhaps.

{As with all the models, Drake will be requested to pose in the nude and remain still, that others may draw him. Certainly this will be difficult for such a nervous, insecure person, but Holmes is sure he will manage to bear the suffering. Holmes wishes to artfully drape a nearly transparent bolt of white linen over one of his shoulders, which needs to be placed just right and he'll be fussing over that the whole time.}

[Drake enjoyed posing, and did so well. He'd done this before, and he was perfectly content to sit perfectly still as Holmes posed him with the cloth, glad to let people look upon his glorious form.]

Hmm.

{Holmes frowns at the shadows, dismay at their fall. First he adjusts the linen, his hands nearing awfully certain areas, but is still not satisfied. He's frowning a lot and walking backward, narrowly missing two easels as he does so.}

No, no. The highlight is all wrong.

{His next fussing is with the lamp now beside him, a lamp which he'd only figured out how to operate that day, which he decides should be placed to better effect on Mr. Stone's right. No, wait, that's not it. Perhaps the left.}

{For anyone hoping to see nude people today, we apologise. Today's art lesson is focused on plants in common dishes, and hopefully this bowl of petunias will not gain sentience during this class. Also, Holmes does not have a bowl of petunias, so if anyone is missing a bowl of this particular flora, well, now you know where they are.}

{Despite Holmes' lack of affection for the female form, he has to admit that (even clothed) she is a spectacular example of it. He's not sure how he wants her to pose when she arrives, or what exact drape or prop he intends to place with her, so he will likely be fussing about with that, even into the lesson. Prepare to be rather ignored if you came to actually receive artful instruction in this particular class.}

{He'll want to have Donowitz posing in a display of force and strength, and, as with the others, he will likely fuss over the lighting and the arrangement, and—most of all—to make certain that each muscle and sinew is brought out to its full effect. He's even swiped a sword from the gymnasium in case he should feel a need to include it, so gym staff, that's what happened to that.}

{Okay, so there is no mystery here. Holmes is the model himself in this session. Unlike the others he does not fuss over his position or the light purple silk covering part of his legs and arm (but not the parts people normally cover) and lounges in a position more befitting of Oscar Wilde than a prudish, reserved, upper class independent consulting detective. He made the others stand, but as he's the boss, he gets to lie down and bask in his own splendour.

Also, as he is naked and in considerable repose, one would think it difficult for him to bar entry to any holograms or those making a fuss on behalf of said creatures of light and forcefields.}
