WHO: Peter and Elle
WHEN: some point after Howie lets Elle out of zero
WHERE: Peter's room
WARNINGS: emo

Elle didn't know what she was supposed to make of this place, where everyone said they knew her and that she'd been here before. For all she knew, they were lying. Even Adam... might not really be Adam, if that Crane guy was to be believed. But regardless of where she'd ended up, Peter was here and she wanted to see him, to clear up this little problem of him abandoning her.

So she headed for his room. There was a brief moment where she was dead sure it was on the second floor, but that had to be wrong. Of course it wasn't on the second floor. She stood in the stairwell, staring out at the second floor hallway, wondering why she would think that, and why it felt so natural to walk this way to see Peter. But the moment passed, and she moved on.

When she got to the right door, she paused, smoothed down her skirt, and knocked.

Part of Peter was thankful that she didn't remember their time together here. A really tiny, mostly selfish part that didn't think he could deal with Elle being mad at him on top of everything else he was still trying to work through. He wasn't sure where they stood or even where he wanted them to.

It'd been two years since he'd last seen her. He hadn't even started to dissect his feelings for her since he got back.

Peter went to answer the door, looking a little surprised when he saw Elle on the other side. "Hi Elle. What's up?"

Peter wasn't entirely sure he knew why she was touching his face and he flinched just a little bit anyway. He'd been expecting her to shock him and would hurt a lot more than it used to, since he didn't have Claire's healing at the moment.

"I thought I had things to do."

That wasn't really a great answer but it was better than just blaming it all on Adam, right?

"Weren't you using me?" Peter asked, letting her play with his hand for the moment. Howie had asked him to keep doing what he'd done the last time to mellow Elle out a little bit. That was harder in practice when he had all these memories of her that she didn't have.

"I'm not going anywhere for a while."

Peter was actually starting to suspect that she didn't have her ability, he didn't know for sure either way, but the Elle he remembered would've zapped him several times by now before resorting to violence.

"I do care about you," Peter said sincerely. He cautiously put a hand over hers. "I care about you a lot more than you know right now."

"You were here before. Howie told you that right?" Peter said, feeling the words tumble out of his mouth before he could really stop them. "I was here then too. We were on good terms."

Peter only resisted because this wasn't his Elle. This wasn't the one that if he were a betting man, he would bet everything he owned that she loved him.

He forced a hand between them, putting it on her shoulder and pushing her back a couple inches. "We were friends," he told her, and pray that if she ever remembered her time here before, she'd forgive him for that bending of the truth.

Peter wasn't sure if he was strong enough to keep trying to keep her at a distance after she kissed him. It was almost easy to pretend like it was just old times again. Maybe she was a little mental and needy but she was his mental and needy person kind of thing.

His conscience won out in the end, unwilling to take advantage of her like that and after a brief moment of returning that kiss, Peter pushed on her shoulders harder this time. "Stop, Elle. I mean it."

fff I am so sorry for the delay. I've been working all weekend :c

Peter thought he caught a look of confusion on her face but she moved on to smiling at him before he could really analyze it. This wasn't his Elle. This wasn't his Elle. He had to keep remembering that.

"Elle, please. Let's just be friends right now."

"If you ever remember the last time you were here," Peter said carefully. "Then we'll talk about it then. Sound good?"
