xxvii. with a song in my heart
Who: Armand & open
What: Armand is in an impossibly good mood and he makes it other people's problem
When: during Six Impossible Things flood
Where: around the Barge
Warnings: some violence, blood drinking
i. one mushroom
Armand doesn't have to exert any self-control not to eat mysterious mushrooms, both because it doesn't take a lot of sense not to eat mysterious fungi at any time - let alone during a flood - and because he has no taste for human food and this counts as more than close enough. Unfortunately, the other effects of the flood get in the way of personal resolutions. It only takes missing step and he ends up with a face full of something that should taste horrible.
That the mushroom actually tastes good wouldn't be enough to change his mind, but the mushroom has other methods of being convincing. There's something he could say about weakness to artificial happiness, but he's busy tasting a few more.
However, while the mushrooms aren't as tasteless as everything other than blood has been for more than five hundred years, they aren't any more filling. And they make the thought of filling himself on blood seem all the more appealing.
Armand hasn't lost his inhibitions, exactly, so he doesn't make any plan to hunt someone down and fully drain them. Yes, death seems to be temporarily even more on pause than usual, but he doesn't intend to do anything that would kill someone if it was. There's nothing wrong with taking a sip or two. It sounds like a lot of fun - which isn't the sort of thought that frequently crosses his mind.
He's not quite humming to himself as he wanders the corridors, looking for a snack or two.
ii. two mushrooms
Not all mushrooms have the same effect, which is good for Armand as the first ones had encouraged him to keep eating them. Eventually he runs across one that involves transformation of the body rather than that of the mind.
Perhaps it's for the best that he's in animal form when he can look at his recent actions with a clear mind. It helps dull the effects - or, at least, it gives him reason to avoid dealing with it for a while longer to instead flop down in various common rooms in the shape of a shaggy dog.
Ugh.
This is definitely going on the list of floods that manage to come close to actually embarrassing. Well, he has time to give polite apologies when he's back in vampire shape.

one mushroom!
This is the third time he's tried to get back into his own cabin and wound up in a random unoccupied cabin on a different level. One more, and he swears, if he didn't need to feed the cat he'd give up and just go sleep in the bed wherever he landed.
Re: one mushroom!
Re: one mushroom!
He rocks back on his heels with a smile that isn't the sort of expression that can usually be seen on his face by anyone who's passed him in the corridors or seen him focused on his work in the dining room.
His eyes are unnaturally bright, possibly because his pupils are a little shrunken.
Re: one mushroom!
More importantly, though--
"What the fuck?" he says, glad to find he can speak without making the pain of the bite any worse. It can't actually be that bad, given where it is, if he's not spewing blood all over the walls and ceiling; any serious bite would've gone through some big blood vessels.
He knows Armand, if only by sight, and none of this is normal for him. Particularly not the big grin.
"You're going to back off now, and we're both going to go home in one piece today," he continues in a conversational tone, gun-barrel not wavering in the slightest as he takes another step back.
Re: one mushroom!
Armand might not be entirely in his right mind, but that doesn't mean he can't manage a certain amount of wounded innocence, even as he absently licks a little blood off the back of his hand.
"You're all in one piece." The advantage of fangs for the vampire is in the ease of drawing blood. The advantage of fangs for their prey (if they're in a situation where such a word applies) is that they cause much less damage than human teeth would.
He doesn't bother to try to pretend that he thinks he's in any risk that he'll start losing any pieces.
Re: one mushroom!
Meaning: back off.
Re: one mushroom!
He sighs, which is both unnecessary for a vampire and not an affectation he usually indulges in. But he wanders towards a wall to pick another mushroom instead of trying to inflict dramatic philosophy along with minor blood loss.
"I suppose it's close enough."
Re: one mushroom!
Because he isn't thrilled at the idea of Armand continuing to wander around biting people. What if he goes too far?

one mushroom
So, he's decided that fine! He wanted to be in this common room. He can sit down and read a book. He's sitting down, in a chair in the fifth floor common room, reading a sci-fi novel he had in his lab coat pocket. Everything is fine and maybe if he just calms down, the Barge will decide to work with him.
He's going to have his peaceful time interrupted but hey, worth a shot.
Re: one mushroom
Today, he just drifts into the common room with a smile on his face that goes unnoticed because Darling is facing in the other direction. Sometimes, you're just happy for your own sake without the need of outside observation. An odd experience for certain people!
Someone sitting down reading a book isn't the best angle for feeding on them, but there are worse and Armand has a lot of experience. He knows how to angle his own head, biting down with his natural unnatural speed - making sure to get a hold on Darling's head and shoulders so the man doesn't injure himself more by deciding to be unreasonable and trying to get away.
Re: one mushroom
He doesn’t spot Armand until the vampire is right on top of him. Darling lets out a little yelp of pain as he feels Armand’s fangs sink into his neck. And nope. Nope, we’re not going to let this happen. He tries to wriggle out of the vampire’s grasp, only to be held down. That’s not going to stop the wriggling, though, as Darling’s main focus is ‘get the hell out of here.’
“Let me go,” he grumbles, through gritted teeth.
Re: one mushroom
Some vampires might have let go and let Darling tear his neck open more as he tries to pull away, but Armand is thoughtful enough to prevent that. Kindness so often goes unappreciated in this world.
He draws back, holding on an extra moment to check the mark from his fangs before letting go. All safe and sound!
Re: one mushroom
Darling practically falls out of his seat, scrambling around so he can look at his assailant. He looks over Armand, giving him a once-over before,
"What was that for?"
Re: one mushroom
He gives Darling a bright smile, which is unnaturally upbeat.
It's one thing to be happy. It's another thing to look a step or two away from skipping around a field a mushrooms. He doesn't have much of a built up tolerance.
"It's your yearly blood donation. Vital for checking that you don't have any dangerous health conditions."
Re: one mushroom
The bright smile is met by a petulant frown from Darling's end. That's his neck! He's using it! Don't bite him! Though he does glance up to Armand's eyes, focusing on them a bit too long, lingering in their piercing gaze.
Weird. Nice, but weird.
"Anyway, I believe the Infirmary has my blood already. They poked and prodded me with too many things during the post-lack-of-death check-up, if they didn't take any of my blood, I'd be very disappointed." That's the sort of thing you do in situations like that, after all. You invent an excuse to take a biological sample!
Re: one mushroom
It's well known that vampire blood itself heals any damage extremely quickly, but he doesn't think it's necessarily only the blood!
He waves a hand.
"It likely depends upon who undertook your examination. Some 'medical professionals' have odd ideas not just about what information they should share, but what they should take at all." He shakes his head at the memory of having to deal with people complaining over little things like 'violating' patient 'privacy' or whatever nonsense they'd come up with that week.

one mushroom!
Trevor is torn between laughing and growing concerned for his weird not-friend. He stands at the border of one of the common rooms, covering his mouth and chuckling.
"You look like you're about to start skipping."
Re: one mushroom!
"Life!" He announces, with a grand wave of his hand.
Trevor is an unappealing option in that direction, but it doesn't make him actively unappealing in general.
Re: one mushroom!
Still, Trevor grins back.
"I've never seen you so happy. It's weird. You're weird."
Re: one mushroom!
"You would be far from the first to call me strange." He far prefers that to being called boring. "'Normality' is a social construct, always ready to change."
Re: one mushroom!
"Oh my god. You're drunk. Or hallucinating, probably that. Eaten enough mushrooms, have you?"
Re: one mushroom!
Perhaps it's unfair to mix Trevor up with the Admiral, here, as they don't necessarily share a sense of humor.
He looks off for a moment.
"If I was hallucinating then I wouldn't see you."
Re: one mushroom!
"I think you might."
Re: one mushroom!
"My hallucinations have always been intertwined with memory, and you capture neither the highs nor the lows."
