« Who: Jinu and you!
« What: Undergrowth Flood: sometimes, Jinu the demon is Jinu the demon hunter
« When: mid October
« Where: Locations
« Content Warnings: violence probable in Hakkai thread, no warnings otherwise; lemme know if you'd like a special encounter with either version!
That's the thing about demons: they always show what they are. They always show their patterns eventually, and this one doesn't even try to hide his. Jinu has been walking around here and has seen the number of vulnerable and confused people (him among them, not that he's going to show that! He has a job to do!) so while he'd normally wait and see what they do to make sure they don't have a more complicated plan for Gwi-ma, he makes a point of strumming his spectral bipa just so to call the demon's attention.
"So... do the souls taste different here for you?"
Before he changes, Jinu is just kind of... watching. Taking in what people's other forms are, learning what he can about what a 'flood' is like in comparison to a breach, trying to figure out what the new identities or appearances or what have you mean. He asks Derpy and Sussie to be careful, to not assume anything, but he doesn't entirely take that advice himself. Instead, he's going to keep doing what he usually does: work in the wardrobe, go to the gazebo, and grab snacks from the commissary. Feel free to encounter him wherever. He's not hiding.
When his clothing changes, turning to something from roughly 400 years ago, it's a very different Jinu, and he acts just as differently. He sneaks around at first, trying to get a lay of the land, figure out where he is, find out if his mother or sister are here, any of his fellow Hunters, or if he's alone here. Then his priorities change: he starts looking out for trouble, for demons, ready to use his voice and his skills to defend and protect people. His music still makes the air flutter with silver, so the Honmoon is here to draw upon, but he doesn't want to show his hand until something happens. He finds himself accompanied by a pair of spirits, and he pets them affectionately, happy to have the companionship when he feels so alone here without his family. Thus, if you find him, it's probably with one or the other of them, if not both. And if you don't see them, well, they're watching. They're protective, especially right now.
Find him anywhere. Or he'll find you, especially if you're causing trouble.

hunter! :3
(This instance of him is not particularly into interior design? Potentially just not into design in general? It's mildly depressing. Get some wall art! Think about a coffee table! There are so many abjectly boring and plebian options that would still improve this cabin. Actually, he's fairly sure he recognizes it, which is also depressing -- it was not a particularly interesting apartment! He had it maybe half a decade ago! Why any version of him would have had it as their cabin is beyond him. Did this girl not move out? Is that really the impression she's giving anyone who visits her cabin? Bizarre.)
...This version of her also apparently does not own facial cosmetics, and that's the point at which she takes a very deep breath (that she absolutely does not need), steadfastedly resolves not to punch the wall, and stalks her way towards the commissary instead. Presentation is important.
He's lighter on his feet than Ashton usually is; more graceful, and in a considerably more elegant way than Ash's regular predator's grace. Intermittently, every now and again he simply -- blinks forward in space a few meters midstep without breaking his stride. ...He also looks slightly less dead than Ashton usually does, but 'slightly less dead' from that basepoint is still recognizably unalive, if someone had any reason to look for that.

And it reinforces to her that she is still kindred, even with most of her disciplines sealed away. She can still do this. She's not incapable.
If she opts to turn down a different hallway than usual, just in the off chance this stranger's path and hers aren't only aligned by complete coincidence down these past few stretches, it's not much of a sacrifice. Cosmetics can wait five minutes while she salves her intermittent paranoia.

He doesn't, yet, make a move. He also doesn't bother to respond; instead, he stretches out clawed fingers, gaze flicking up and down Jinu's form with no more visible emotion than a mild curiosity.

Very few youkai are abominations like himself. Perhaps none.
He turns his hands palm-up in a tiny, sardonic gesture: it's true, and being true, needs no comment.
Still, he does speak, his voice soft and a little creaky with disuse. "You wanted to talk?"
He feels that he can be forgiven a tone of gentle disbelief. After all, it seems the man is far more interested in the sound of his own voice than in the answer to any questions.

hunter
The Flood itself hasn't done anything to him, and he's glad for that.
"Jinu-" Ah, him knowing the other man's name is probably going to be suspicious. Welp. He will pet Derpy when the tiger inevitably shoves its way under his hand, though. "Are you okay?"
Re: hunter
"Hey, uh... whoever you are. Sorry, I'm not always great with names." He rubs the back of his neck for a moment before tilting his head. "'Okay'? I mean... I'm fine, I guess. A little confused what I'm doing here. Bu otherwise, everything is fine. I've never been anywhere that looks like this before. I've been thinking of how I'm going to tell my mother and my sister about all of this."
Especially if his mother was expecting him to be training right now.

Awkward, but not as awkward as he was expecting. This is probably the most words he's heard out of Jinu at once since they met.
"I'm Alexei." Maybe that will ring a bell, maybe it won't. "Your... mom and sister?"
Guess who didn't know about those because he's not taken a single peep at the inmate's file, and Jinu is not what one might call open about, well... anything.

The Jedao who slides into the wardrobe is - different. He's wearing black from head to toe, a neat military jacket with an asymmetrical front and gold trim, insignia like talons at his shoulder; a golden eye on silver chain hanging below.
He doesn't move like a military man, though: he moves like a kept man, shameless and slinky, fluid and cheeky. His smile is - a little bit heart-stopping, honestly, sparkling and gorgeous. He's smooth-shaven, his hair is longer, and his fingernails are painted silver.
"I'm in desperate need of something more cozy."

"What do you find 'cozy', good sir?"

It almost feels like starlight; it's what he imagines freedom would have felt like.

Hunter!
Avalon is also trying to get the lay of the land, and find out who knows them. They recognize a few people, but some people who feel like strangers still seem to recognize them.
When he finds them on deck, they have what looks like a glass tennis ball in their hand, swirls of neon green and light blue curling over its black surface. They study the orb closely, more like they expect it to do something than like they know exactly what the colors mean. They look up when they hear him, and the blue swirls grow thicker, taking up more surface area.
“Do you know me?” They remember meeting him, but he may not be the same person.
Hunter Jinu finds kid not-quite-the-butcher Dennis
He fidgeted with one of the televisions for a moment, but he didn't understand it enough to get it working and eventually left it alone. Instead, he took residence on the couch and began to examine his stolen goodies. He sorted them into two piles: the good snacks stayed on the couch with him, and the "bad" (weird tasting) snacks got thrown to the floor in disgust.
Re: Hunter Jinu finds kid not-quite-the-butcher Dennis
Reverse cats, man.
Thus, he's going to try and get the kids attention before he freaks out.
"Uh... hey. Hey, kid?"
Keeping his distance, holding his hands up.
[hunter] - after
"Are you you, or are you one of the flood people?" She demands.
Re: [hunter] - after
"'Flood people'?"
He clearly has no idea what she's talking about.
Re: [hunter] - after
"I'm Princess Donut! You remember me, right??"

Before!
But just when he spots his opening, his chance, he reaches for whatever Jinu is grabbing as he walks by and shakes his head. "Hey!" he calls out, wild and panicked. "Those are mine!"
Re: Before!
"Not exactly the best look for the shopkeep, man. You okay?"
He looks like the normal version. Mostly.

Gazebo, before
Oscar didn't tend to go to the Gazebo. But then, he didn't tend to need it- and it was a reminder that he only had one hand to play things. But, he thought, he would try to give himself some comfort by trying the piano one handed.
It wouldn't be very good, and he did not know much about playing, but it would be nice to attempt, he thought. He was surprised to see Jinu there though.
Maybe he shouldn't have been. He also had sung something on the network, if he remembered right.
Re: Gazebo, before
"Yeah, that's me."
He offers a dip of his head in a short bow.
"Nothing important." What he was asking for, he means. "The name is Jinu. Annnnd you would be?"
He pauses before stepping aside.
"If I'm not in your way, of course."
