Couple of Days After Pairings
Just how long has she been here...? Just how long does it take for someone to get a permanent Warden? Is it punishment for everything she's done, that she remains stuck with temporary ones?
Finding Jinx as she dwells on this should be easy. She's just kind of wandering the hallways, fingers tracing the wall as she goes, her expression not hiding how she's deep in thought.
Re: Couple of Days After Pairings
Could it be that he isn't meant to be here? That he must show he can earn his place by assisting more thoroughly with his temporary placements?
These thoughts are rushing to mind when he walks near to Jinx in the hallway the other way. He stops, his hands behind his back in his usual pose when he would walk the halls of the Chimaera, and the ships before her.
He nods in greeting.
"Good day, Inmate Jinx." He says, possibly too formally. Thrawn is still, years later, learning the customs of this ship and others, and occasionally will make missteps in his speech. His red eyes glow, as he comes to parade rest.
no subject
"Thrawn... Hey," she says, and then gives the tiniest smile, "You can just call me Jinx, you know."
She studies his posture for a moment.
"Where you in some kind of... military, back home?"
no subject
Thrawn, hardly self-conscious, merely nods.
"Yes: since I was at your age, or a little older." Which would put it neatly at two-thirds of his entire life.
"Do you have military experience?"
no subject
"So around 18, 19?"
Jinx gives him a bit of a wry smile at the question, and then shakes her head.
"Kind of the opposite, if anything. I... kind of hate the military, where I'm from. I was too young to really remember it, but... When you grow up, constantly being reminded that they're the ones that killed your mom and dad, that... tends to bury itself deep into your mind, you know?"
Flood Catchall
Arcane Season 2, Episode 7 Spoilers
During the first day,
running into her will be pretty easy... because she'll literally be running all over the Barge, with a look of both confusion and amazement.
The second she sees anyone, she'll be quick to ask them what this place is, where they are, why they are, etc. She very genuinely doesn't know who almost anyone around here is, but she does keep asking about Ekko, Vander, Silco, etc. Maybe that's the first question out of her mouth at the next one she stops.
After the first day,
she spends quite a lot of time at the cafeteria, anxiously sipping at juice, water, or tea. Whenever she isn't there, it'll be easiest to find her sitting outside of the Greenhouse, reading a book with an increasingly unreadable expression. By the time she gets to the end of that book, it's impossible to tell what's going through her mind.
After closing it slowly, she just sits there, hands folded in her lap as her gaze rests on the ground.
Halfway through the Flood,
she makes a point of greeting each person with a smile, a wave, and possibly a polite greeting of some kind. Depending on how they react to the first two, anyway. No sign of liking her results in that person possibly being ignored from then on. She's not even a little apologetic about that, because she has! More important things to focus on! Like trying to investigate who this Jinx person is, and exactly how she wound up here.
That means close CR might get a network message, asking if she and Ekko can talk to them about something.
first day
"I don't--" Hoo boy, she's not good at this. "I'm - sorry but I don't recognize those names."
no subject
"Sorry, I, um... kind of ramble when I'm nervous? This is... a little overwhelming, but... not your fault! It's... It's okay. I'll... keep looking..."
As she chews on her bottom lip, she looks around, clearly trying to figure out where to even head next. But it's such a big place, and she winds up just letting out a frustrated sigh, instead. Maybe she should just take a moment with this person who's not looking that much better off than she is.
"You, um... new here, too?"
Halfway through the Flood
When Jinx waves, Avalon waves back. Their expression is muted, but their eyes are alive, recognition clear in them. Avalon already found some unfamiliar people who seemed to recognize them, but Jinx is the first one they can remember meeting. They study her, trying to figure out if she seems different.
no subject
"Hey, so, I'm... having a really weird day. Like... I do and don't recognize some things here? Maybe you could... help me jog any memories? My name's Powder! It's nice to... sort of meet you."
no subject
“Nice to meet you. My name is Avalon.”
They slip their hand in their pocket, fingers curling around the orb they had found in their cabin. It feels new to them, despite the cheat sheet and the journal they had found with it, both a few years old. “Would you believe me if I said I might know a different version of you? I remember meeting you, but you called yourself Jinx.”
Network Message
i've got nothing but free time
no subject
My name's Powder.
What should I call you?
no subject
i respond to a great many names
though i do prefer just ashton but i'm not that picky
no subject
Do you remember Jinx?
no subject
checked through the logs on the communicator earlier, and it seems like this version of me's relationship with her is similar to mine. to a degree, at least
After first day
"Would you like me to get you more tea? I'm on my way to get some myself."
no subject
"That'd be great, thanks!"
Despite anxiety clearly trying to wear her down, she manages to do a sort of impressive job of Just Fine.
no subject
"Would you like any cream or sugar in your tea? Or lemon?"
He wasn't sure what was making her anxious, but he was going to make sure she would feel safe.
After the first day
It's a strange place with a lot to think about. All the implications from the network and the host of posts and comments there. His and Powder's designation as "inmates" when neither of them have done anything delinquent in years, at this point. The private messages between "himself" and others that he wasn't even sure if he had the right to snoop on. It's him but... not him?
When he returns to the girl with a bottle of water in each hand, he catches that look in her eye, the slow, deliberate way she closes the book.
Kneeling slightly and tilting his head, he inquires, "Powder?"
no subject
She anxiously tugs at the pink strand in her hair, knees pulled tighter to her chest as she rests her chin on them.
"I'm... trying to put myself in Jinx's shoes. Trying to understand her, but it's so..."
Dark.
no subject
"Different, how?"
And if Vi was alive... how did things go so wrong for Jinx to end up the way she did...? Granted Ekko only knows bits and pieces from what he's seen, but... it doesn't surprise him that Powder looks so solemn over what she read.
"It's a lot," he agrees quietly, putting down the bottles and cracking one open, gently moving it to offer to her.
"I've read a little bit here and there. Mostly the public conversations. Both the other Ekko and Jinx... They really seem like they've been through it."
no subject
"Maybe that's... why we're here."
It's said quietly, a bit of doubt lingering, but not enough to stop her from trying to believe there's a positive side to all of this.
no subject
It almost made him feel bad for having it so good, and he wonders if Powder feels the same way.
His head slightly tilts towards her, feeling even more fortunate that they had this. It still gave him butterflies in his stomach when she did things like this. Something that... it didn't seem like these two quite had.
"Yeah?" he encourages.
no subject
"We could tell them a little about our journey? Or... I don't know, maybe just make it clear we... believe in them. Who would have a better idea of what they need to hear... than... others versions of them?"
no subject
"I think it says a lot about them that they're still friends with each other. I mean, that's the kind of vibe I got, anyway.
"So, maybe that could be part of it, too. Find the good points that could be passing them by. Or, uh..."
He strokes his chin for a moment.
"I guess... what I usually find comfort in is... Knowing my mess-ups aren't me, you know? Uh... not that I'm trying to talk on their behalves..."
God help him.
