Who: Hakkai, Jedao, and birthday party attendees

What: At Jedao's request, Hakkai is throwing him a birthday party. He's not quite sure if he's doing it right.
Where: Family/close friends get-together in their cabin, open-to-all bash in the Enclosure afterwards!

Early Afternoon: Party in Jedao's Cabin

The first half of the party is the official birthday part: Hakkai hit up a few discount shops in New York and has decorated their cabin for a get-together of Jedao's closest friends. Butterfly cards with an invitation to Jedao's First Annual Birthday Party written inside in Hakkai's scrupulously neat brush lettering were slid under or tucked into cabin doors the previous day.

(And if he's chosen that deliberately silly description so that he can avoid contemplating the complicated question of Jedao's actual age, he'll never tell.)

Inside the cabin, the kitchen counter is draped with a brilliantly tie-dyed swathe of cotton in every color of the rainbow, conveniently sized appetizers arranged on a dozen different platters. Thanks to a helpful new cookbook Hakkai picked up in port, there's also a Jell-o mold (which contains shrimp and is flavored with the sweet-spicy bright red sauce he'd normally have drizzled over the shrimp) and a tray of Jell-o shots in addition to dumplings, tiny barbecued skewers, a variety of fried things on sticks, and fruit cut into decorative shapes.

There's also a disco ball carefully hung from the ceiling vines. He's been told they're festive.

Their couch has been shoved against a wall to make room for a variety of board and card games set up on small low tables, many from their recent Earth visit, but others from the library or from stranger worlds and times. Cushions and beanbags have been set up around the room to accommodate a larger crowd than their cabin normally sees. There's a space marked off with a ribbon beside the couch for presents, and about an hour into the party, Hakkai will break out his carefully decorated cake, light the arbitrary circle of candles he's placed atop it, and ceremoniously invite Jedao to blow them out and start cutting slices.

Later Afternoon/Evening: The Bigger Bash (open to all)

After the cake and presents are settled, Hakkai's hurrying up to start the program he's been working on in the Enclosure and throw the doors open. Without limited cabin space to worry about, this part of the party is open to everyone on board. Inside the Enclosure, there's a science-fiction fever dream of a video game arcade. All the games are multiplayer-friendly, all across the spectrum from dancing or drumming games to shooting and sports challenges to adventure or fighting arcade games. The technology level varies all the way from a classic Pong table and foosball to immersive VR headsets and hologram projections. Side doors lead to a laser-tag maze full of billowing fog-machine fog and black lights, a big conversation pit of a room that's heaped in comfortable cushions, and a refreshments room -- the food set out on the buffet is Hakkai's cooking, and there are more Jell-o molds appearing here beside the appetizers, fruit and dumplings, although all of the food has a distinctly Chang'an flavor profile. A side counter holds both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and there's a bigger sheet cake with serving knife and plates holding pride of place on its very own table.
