Who: Yazoo, Vaggie and Cloud~
What: Meeting!
When: Now.
Where: The deck is probably safest.

He shoots off messages to Vaggie and Cloud, letting them know he is waiting for them on the deck. He likes the open air and stretching his legs is better than bottling up his energy. Seeing big brother again is...something. Complicated. Yazoo had tried so hard to drag Cloud with them and it hadn't worked.

Why was the other man so different from them? From him? Pausing near the center of the deck, his arms crossed over his chest, he flicks his hair out of his eyes. If Jenova has really rejected them, there are questions that deserve an answer.

"Hm."

Vaggie is here as moral support and to intervene effectively if shit goes down. She is much better at the latter than the former, but she tries to look encouraging as she lingers at a slight distance. Her face isn't really made for it. But. She tries.

She has her spear with her. Just. In case. But it's holstered.

Cloud is not entirely sure why he's here; he figures Yazoo's warden must have wanted to get the lowdown on whatever weird relationship he's got with the Remnants or something. Fair enough. He doesn't know Vaggie very well, but he spends a lot of time at the gym, and thus he's spoken to her in passing enough times to know he thinks she's pretty cool.

He shows up not long after Yazoo sends the message. He, too, has a weapon with him - weapons, in fact, since his Fusion Sword gets separated into its constituent blades to be sheathed at his back in the harness he wears for them. But he has no plans to use any of them. He just carries them with him everywhere he goes, all the time. He'd felt sort of...vulnerable and unsettled without them, so he's grateful that Ulla requested their return.

Cloud glances between the two of them when he arrives and decides to place himself vaguely equidistant from both of them, not knowing what to expect.

"Here I am. What's up?"

This has less to do with his Warden and more to do with Yazoo wanting to see Cloud in person. He accepts that he might be rejected (again) and he doesn't want to face that alone. So Vaggie is kind enough to keep watch and make sure a certain Remnant doesn't jump over the railing. That would be counterproductive.

Seeing Cloud's sword makes him smirk and he moves up to the other man smoothly, his feet barely making any sound against the planking. Almost as if he is a ghost.

Well, he should be one anyway. Lifestreams don't accept the living!

"I wanted to see you." Yazoo is blunt about his feelings at least, "You're looking well. What have you been up to on the Barge?"

Well, nothing disastrous yet. Vaggie shifts to perching on the railing of the deck, removing herself a little more. Supportive wardening!

Cloud's brow furrows as he glances over to where Vaggie's clearly taking up a position to watch over the proceedings and then back at the Remnant.

"...you called me here for supervised small talk? Gimme a break."

"You wouldn't have come otherwise." Yazoo places his hands on his hips, pouting, "Or you would have assumed I wanted to fight."

Not that he is against fighting, buuuut...

"You're alive, too. So we came back together."

"Considering the first thing you said to me was 'I won't miss this time,' yeah, figured there was a good chance you wanted to fight." But of course he came anyway.

Cloud frowns in confusion. "Not really. Been here a few months now. Don't see why we'd 'come back together' anyway, last I saw you, you were perfectly fine. Running off back to Kadaj. Still dunno why he changed his tune that day."

"I didn't miss." Yazoo mutters quietly, his humor over the subject briefly absent. He had shot Cloud so he would follow them, but it hadn't worked, had it?

"Is that all you remember?" he smirks and lets his arms fall back to his sides, "You weren't meant to die then."

"Unless you were aiming for my goggles, you did."

Cloud's starting to suspect Yazoo is from the same future point as Sephiroth and Vincent and Kadaj, and the Remnant confirms it with his smug-sounding question.

"Yeah. Fought with you guys, went to talk to Rufus, went back to the church. Learned you assholes stole our materia. Nothing else." He shrugs. "From what I hear, I didn't die at all and geostigma got cured. Why, what do you remember?"

"Not then." Yazoo tries to explain, but since Cloud hasn't experienced any of that yet, he ends up sighing, "You killed Kadaj. Loz and I were dying too." because of Cloud, "So I hit the mark with you that time."

But Cloud is right. Almost as soon as he did it, Yazoo had sensed it wouldn't work. She wouldn't let Cloud die.

Cloud killed Kadaj...but Sephiroth said Cloud had killed him, and knowing what he does about the supposed plan, Kadaj probably died in the fight they had because Sephiroth used him to manifest himself. Hell, if Yazoo and Loz were also dying, maybe Sephiroth used all three of them.

Great.

"So you tried to kill me out of spite. Sounds like you didn't hit the mark well enough, if I survived anyway." This time there's no trace of smugness. He's just trying to understand what happened. No...what will happen, if this future the others know is what comes after he graduates. He's not sure how set in stone that is. Kind of a scary thought, but if he could graduate and change things for the better...

Not quite, but...almost. The explosion on the bridge had ensured Yazoo and Loz were dying by the time they caught up to Cloud and Kadaj.

"My mark was fine." he answers grumpily, "She took Kadaj and then we followed. You were supposed to come too, but she sent you back."

Aerith is tricky like that, gathering the sons of Jenova close, far from that alien entity and sending Cloud back to, maybe, enjoy his life. He has earned that, though Yazoo is prickly about them being separated.

At first, Cloud thinks 'she' must be Jenova. Who else would Yazoo be talking about?

But then he says 'she' sent Cloud back. From the Lifestream? From the dead? There's only one person it could be. His eyes widen.

"Aerith..." he says softly.

"Who else?" Yazoo raises a dark shoulder, wanting to be angry with her. It would be easier if he was! But he can't. Not after meeting her in person.

"What is she?"

"She's an Ancient. One of the Cetra. The people who lived on our planet originally, before Jenova landed there and forced them into a war with humanity. They lost."

The knowledge that somehow, Aerith kept him alive when he should have been dead, that's...well, he supposes he'll just add that to the list of all the many ways in which she's saved him.

Before Jenova. Before Mother. Before Sephiroth. Before him. Yazoo feels the emptiness - the despair - that Sephiroth had likely felt upon his realization that they were not - and have never been - tied to the planet.

"Where did we come from?"

Cloud frowns. "You came from the Lifestream, where Sephiroth made you. Jenova..." His frown grows more thoughtful and he gazes up, out at the stars. "Dunno. Somewhere out there. The Ancients called it the 'calamity from the skies.' It fell from the sky on an asteroid. Landed on the Northern Continent, that's why there's a huge crater there."
