I Would Rather Be Working (Just Keep Swimming Port)
Who: Gortash, OTA
What: Just Keep Swimming Port
When: Sept 22-Oct 1st
Where: Various Locations, places for threads will be indicated in boldface.
Warnings: Will update, warnings will appear in the subject headings of threads
Enver Gortash has nearly no reason to trust a port. There is also something a little backward in thinking about calling it a "vacation" to send them from the ship to...another ship. Leave alone that the thing looks like a death-trap to him. The fact that they as Inmates have a good deal more freedom and private baths in their cabins? (His own is ocean-view.) Could just be a trick. So he will spend much of the event quietly waiting for things to get worse.
But there is at least much to do while waiting for things to get worse. He is firstly likely to be spied in various parts of the ship studying the solar panels (he would need to be granted access by a keyholder), the chorebots, the elevators, and the glass-bottom lower deck. In these situations he has his journal on him but is also likely taking notes by hand. For quiet reflection, he will likely vanish to the library to seek to either further the studies he was doing back on the Barge or to see if there is any information on the tech, flora, and fauna specific to this location. The latter studies are futhered during excursions, where he swims and dives with relative ease, but people might notice that he doesn't wear trunks or anything particularly revealing. He is likely to join others he knows in search for samples and the like.
Listen, he is fascinated by the chorebots and can be seen observing them at a distance and up close and may be responsible for escalating obstacles appearing in their path in order to see what they do, what happens if they sustain damage, etc. This may eventually lead to him trying to break one open to see how it works or at the very least capture one.
He will attend meals in the Dining Area with the same attitude as he does on the Barge, and though he seems to enjoy the formal vibe in the dining room on Deck 14 to the one on Deck 13, he can be found at both. Unless invited, he picks a place to sit and is open to being approached.
I invite anyone to make him attend a movie (Deck 15) or a play (Decks 5-6), the latter of which he has zero experience in.
He will explore all accessible corridors, walkways, and other social areas (Wildcard!) on the ship but likely not linger long unless invited.

Chorebots;
"Testing the capability of the AI, I see." That's the right word, right? He's done some light reading on the subject, thanks to Tendi.
He glances over at some nearby railing. It's a nice, long drop to the floors below.
"Perhaps you could test how sturdy they are next?"
He's curious himself. They look difficult to pull apart without the right tools, but dropping them from a great height might make that possible.
no subject
A small noise in the affirmative as he tries to ensure he doesn't miss anything the chorebot is doing.
"That's the idea, once I have some clear idea what they do when damaged."
Do they move themselves to a maintenance area? Does someone or something fetch them if they are incapable of going, themselves?
Dropping it down in the stairwell might be effective but it might take too long to get to it, which means it can't be observed.
Gortash jots a few notes as the robot begins to move and dismantle parts of the obstacle, seeming to understand these were objects placed in is way.
"So not just simple tasks; there's also some signs of problem-solving capabilities," he mutters.
Basic to start -- the next steps would be to see how complex it can be.

They aren't far from empty cabins, so he steps into one, takes a blanket, and simply bundles up the Chorebot. It, amusingly, seems a little disorientated by this, swaying from side to side as it struggles to get itself untangled. It's gentle struggling, though: it's taking care not to rip the blanket, its extended arms manoeuvring instead of tearing.
"It has its priorities." He leans against the wall to observe as it awkwardly frees itself from the blanket. "That might just work. To disorientate the robot long enough to damage it, that is."
It'd also make it difficult for it to lash out with any defensive measures, should it have any.
no subject
Would be interesting to learn it does have defensive capabilities. Gortash is careful to jot down a few more bits of information.
"I'd rather find a way to get a good look at it from all angles while intact, but beggars cannot be choosers. I am also uncertain what measures are taken when one is damaged. If it's logging information at all it is very possible someone is receiving it. Our first attempt may be our only one, so it needs to count."
Which means he needs to learn everything he can before it comes to that.
no subject
"That's entirely possible. I've been testing the extent of its compliance all morning; it's very accommodating." He steps into the path of the Chorebot and gestures it back toward Enver. "Just tell it to stay still to give you time to think of how to word a request and it will. It won't understand that's not what you're doing."
He's not even lowering his voice; it's not the most intelligently built little robot. It doesn't seem to listen at all unless directly addressed.
"If there's any chance we'll lose access to the Chorebots by damaging one, it might be wise to give that step a few more days. I still have use for them."
But he does want to wreck one eventually. He just wants to get as much milage out of them as he can before he risks losing access.

Back on their ship, chorebots would still be contending with the bored and the destructive.
"But I imagine there are still a few uses to be gotten out of them."
What's the power source? How are they getting around? If it's replicable, he could do something with that, perhaps.
He managed his first working eldritch cannon at fifteen; these things can't be that challenging.
no subject
He attempted to dispose of it and it didn't go according to plan, but it would have been no great loss. As far as he could tell, the droid couldn't do much; just rolled around deck scrubbing as much floor as it could reach. Nowhere near as versatile as these Chorebots.
"These are good at fulfilling requests wardens wouldn't, given the right instructions and context."
That's a hint - Enver should take advantage of that while he can.
no subject
"How good are they at fetching?" Since they appear to understand basic commands for cleaning and general upkeep.
He packed his gauntlets along because he doesn't trust they won't be needed again. But largely decorative last-resort tools cannot keep being his go-tos for emergency situations, especially when a danger is already far too close if it is near enough for him to use them.
But after his conversation with Tendi, he's not so certain he will need that for much longer.

"Better than the Admiral wants them to be, I suspect."
He shoots off a quick instruction for the Chorebot to reassemble Enver's barrier. Something to keep it busy until it's needed.
"Get your hands on supplies while you can. Between the folly of the Admiral and the unpredictability of the other residents, you never know when next we'll descend into disaster."

Outside the Cabins
She's wearing, at the moment, a much more casual-than-usual v-neck tee, cargo pants, and a belt. Don't get her wrong, she loves her uniform, but this setting does seem to call for something a little more laid-back, and easier to wear her swimsuit under.

He himself is dressed in one amounts to the more casual wardrobe he appears to have adopted on the ship. A button-down shirt and vest, simple fitted trousers, boots, etc. With just his simple ringsplints as opposed to his full gauntlets.
He visibly brightens on Tendi's approach. It's subtle on a man like him, the slightest raising of the brows, the crinkle of smile in the corners of his eyes. So whatever his immediate intentions, it can wait as he approaches to answer. "What can I do for you?"

And a sight more accepting of the brief but informal contact the initiates.
"...Go on." Initially he thinks that perhaps she's been experimenting with the design, perhaps wished to report her findings. Either way, interesting!

"I've talked to the Admiral. He won't let anyone request weapons for inmates unless it's their direct warden. Even stun-only weapons that only activate during an emergency." She tried. She really did. "Which means, well- I can have a conversation with your temporary warden? Put in a good word? Or you can, if you prefer. Otherwise it's going to take a few weeks of R&D work before I have anything for you, and I don't have the facilities to do much more than brainstorm, here."
no subject
"You went to all that trouble?" he asked. A small tug of a smile, perhaps a little surprised. "The vote of confidence is much appreciated. And...I don't imagine my current Warden would have any objections to hearing from you."
There was nothing about the young man that gave him the impression he would be difficult, but this subject just feels like it would come off less suspiciously if it were raised by another Warden first.
no subject
"I haven't met them yet, so I don't know if they'll listen to me - I am pretty new. So no promises. The other option is that the Admiral can apparently make it so you just... become incorporeal if attacked, apparently? And he might fulfill that request even if I'm not your warden? But I haven't tried yet, because that feels... like something I want permission before doing."
Something about the lack of agency there bugs her. She doesn't want inmates to be in danger, but there's also something empowering about being able to defend yourself, and something disempowering about being passively protected. But she doesn't want to deny anyone their safety, so it's Gortash's choice.

It could be something similar to the infusion he placed on Orin's blade, but that required a lot of specificity. It only affected one weapon wielded by one person against him. Even that had been tricky.
"And it sounds like the sort of thing with hidden costs, if I am being honest."

Thrawn announces himself from the shadow of one of the walkways, eyes eerily aglow.
no subject
"Thrawn," he returns the greeting with an easy smile.
The eyes put him in mind of elves; it's the opposite of off-putting.
"Enjoying our present accommodations, I trust?"

"I discovered the art museum early on, and have been spending most of my days there. But I felt I should investigate the rest of the ship and tore myself away."
no subject
But he has heard such a facility existed somewhere on this nation-within-a-ship. This place has been an opportunity for more work and far less play.
"Perhaps if you feel yourself drawn back there in the future you might be willing to lead a small tour."
no subject
"I will be returning there this afternoon. It would be my pleasure to escort you."
