WHO: Kiryu and you! [open]
WHAT: Kiryu has made a few changes to the dining hall re: this post [blue changes] AND he has some stuff to distribute from this post's requests. If you wanted to request something, you can still hit that post up for something.
WHERE: dining hall!
WHEN: a day or two after the end of the flood
NOTES: No warnings to begin with. If you'd like a starter, or to plot for something, feel free to ping me on plurk @ yarnzipan; hover for translation if your character would know what the Japanese says.
If you happen to come to the dining hall today, you'll notice a couple of things are different: the configuration of the tables has shifted back, away from the doors in. This was done to make room for two things:
On the left, it looks like a dart board with a score board has been put up on the wall and a small mat has been put down to mark the line where people need to stand for their throws. There's two sets of darts provided there, clearly visible. There's also a hand-written sign on it that says 自由に遊ぶ !!! on it. Hopefully you read Japanese?
On the other side, to the right of the door, there's a table that's been set apart, and a few things have been put in a nice lacquered box: a box with six sided dice, several decks of cards, and a few rows of poker chips. Look just below it and there are two other boxes: a shogi set, and a set of mahjong tiles. The same note is there, but so is Kiryu, who's got a few boxes settled next to him.
If you asked for anything the other day? He's got it here. But even if you didn't, though? He might still have something you want. Specifically, large plastic water bottles and first aid kits, especially for inmates who don't have them for their cabins. Feel free to come by, say hello, ask questions, ...provide translated text for him? He's happy to chat.

"Hey, what is this?" he asks Kiryu, spreading out the tiles with the palm of his hand, bringing all the matching pictures together.
no subject
He points to the matched tiles. "Though you've already got the idea somewhat. You get a hand of 13 tiles, then through drawing and discarding, you get to a 14 tile hand. The simplest hand is four sets and a pair."
He spreads his hands.
"There's more to it but that's the basics."
no subject
That sounds like the opposite of fun. So he's going to completely ignore those rules and make up his own. Namely - continue matching!
no subject
And yes, Rags, that is exactly what he's trying to do. As well. Both things can be true. Besides, there's just a visceral enjoyment to matching. Why not?
"I suppose two people could play with two hands each. But that's not the design."
no subject
But then he has a better idea. "I bet I can make matches faster than you."
no subject
"What do you want to bet?"
Ah, mahjong gambling. The best way to get your ass beat in Kamurocho.
no subject
"We can spend some time together tonight. If I win, then I get to choose what we do. If you win, then you get to choose. Deal?"
no subject
"How are the shoes, by the way? The man said they were good for jumping and climbing."
no subject
"I did knock into a guy, though. He was pissed and hit me. I think I deserved it." He finishes turning over all the tiles and spreads out his hands. "Alright. Rules of my fucking game. You can only use one hand - the one you don't use all the time." Because he needs more practice with his left hand and his right is hurting. "We're going to turn all the tiles over and make matches as fast as possible. Whoever has the most matches by the end of the game wins."

"Kazuma?" he asks, giving the man a nod. "Pleasure to actually meet you in person."
no subject
He's not much of a handshake guy, so he just stands and offers a bow of his head.
"Good to meet you as well, Cornelius-san." He considers getting to business, but then he realizes there's something else first.
"First matters first: do you need a first aid kit for your room? Or a bottle for keeping water?"
He's assuming the man's an inmate, mostly from feel and from some of the context clues he's seen. He won't mind being wrong, but he won't fail to offer in case he's right.
no subject
"I won't say no to that," Hickey laughs. "I think the ability to take care of my own scrapes would come in rather handy."
no subject
“Would you like me to go through what’s inside and how to use it?”
no subject
And besides, the time difference is a good way to hide the fact that Mr. 1840s over here has absolutely no idea how to do basic first aid aside from 'shove some gauze on it and wrap it up.'
no subject
...it becomes increasingly obvious that Kiryu has one, taken all of these wounds at one point or another and two, has often had to bandage himself back up afterwards.
When he's done, he'll pack the whole kit back up neatly and push it gently towards Hickey.
"You're also welcome to call on me until you have a warden, if you need help or assistance, including with something like this."
no subject
There's one thing he's absolutely certain of: Kiryu is just as soft-hearted as Rags said he was.
"I'll do that," Hickey says, with a nod. "And I mean it, I'll do it. I'm going to need at least a few people willing to help among the wardens until I'm paired."
no subject
“412, if I hadn’t mentioned. I know I prefer face to face communication over text.”
He leans back a little in his seat since that’s done to get to business.
“As for the job, we are responsible for maintaining the dining hall itself. Aside from the projects I’ve mentioned, we need to make sure the space is prepared for each of the meals throughout the day.”
He gestures to Hickey with one hand.
“My preference would be that we split the meals between us; I would take two and you would take one. I would want to work the first week’s shifts with you, just to ensure you feel comfortable with all of the tasks. Any objections?”

lol sorry at how late this is
"About time the casino got some competition, I was starting to think they were getting lazy," she remarks as she pockets her mascara. "Thanks."
no worries
Yes, yes, he did actually get her the Starbucks. But he's had to keep it refrigerated, after all, or what's the use?
He walks back over, and yes, he'll hold out the tray with the two frappucinos as if he's offering madame the house's finest selection.
"Enjoy."
Is it ridiculous? Yes. That's... part of it. Hopefully, it'll at least get a smile.
no subject
"Nice touch," she remarks at the gesture, and the corner of her mouth does twist up. "It fun, running all over the world running errands?"
no subject
no subject
"What do I owe you?"
no subject
"You accepted an offer I made. You didn't make the request unprompted. No payment necessary."
He'll let that hang in the air before he adds-
"There's nothing I really need and debts make things awkward."
no subject
"They've always worked pretty well for me, especially in a pinch."
And she's sure she can remember everything anyone's ever done for her, red in her ledger that she'll have to make good on eventually.
no subject
He tends to prefer just doing what he thinks is a good idea and if there's good will from it, there's good will. But he won't disrespect her wishes.
"But you should enjoy your drinks before they melt."
