Operation Seven: Unscathed
WHO: Randel and Misty, Randel and you
WHAT: waking up...undamaged
WHERE: Misty's cabin, Randel's cabin, greenhouse
WHEN: end of April
NOTES: Some minor warnings for body horror. If you'd like a starter, or to plot for something, feel free to ping me on plurk @ yarnzipan
He wakes up with a scream.
Part of that is the fact that he'd been dozing instead of coma-ing for the last hour or so, which invariably held nightmares only made worse by the substance he's submerged in. The mud, the feel of it... it's not too different from the blood in his nightmares, so his brain plays unfortunate tricks that have him flailing in the tub and screaming as he wakes up.
But that's really not the only thing for him to notice. Just give him a second.
People might notice something about Randel, something that doesn't even entirely register at first: no scars. Randel's cheek, his nose, his hands... he's wearing his linen shirt and his usual pants and some soft slippers he'd put together in the arts and crafts room a while back since this place seemed a little soft for his combat boots.
But most importantly: no scars.
As a result, you'll see him at the pool more often. You'll see him in the greenhouse, of course, helping with the food production farming. You'll find him in his cabin again, taking care of his too many cats (and if you want one, you can ask!) and he's seen often enough in the cafeteria, loading up, eating his fill, looking... revitalized. And a little awkward about it, but mostly better.

He's awake. Not ideally so, but awake, that is him moving and for a moment the shock of it does in any attempt at speech. Only a moment.
"Hey-!" Whether it's to get his attention off the frightening thing or just probing for a reaction to further prove this is in fact real, she couldn't say. It is at least abundantly joyful. Towels are being hastily offered. "It's alright! You're safe. Had me worried sick, but nothing's hurting you."
A hug can wait until he's steadier on his feet.
no subject
"No."
He agrees with her.
"Nothing... hurts right now."
He's so very clearly confused.
no subject
"That was me. You were in a coma for awhile, and-- part of it was me getting worried, a lot of people went down around the same time and that seems to end up with half of 'em disappearing. Was hoping maybe your odds would be better if you were close by, with something going on. And then all the scars, whatever internal damage you must have going on...seemed like I could get two birds with one stone? It'd be a lot harder and a lot slower any other way. You're safe, nothing weird happened on board, I kept an eye on the cats, all that's fine. Do you feel groggy or anything? Hungry?"
no subject
"Hungry," he finally decides, and his voice is quiet. He's still cleaning up but he's also just moving his limbs, shifting and testing his body. It's been a very long time since he's felt like this. Never, if he's entirely honest: the experiments that had made him this size hadn't exactly left him unscathed.
"If that's all right."
Another pause.
"I'm sorry if I worried you."

"We can go."
no subject
There's thankfully a dog to tend while she waits. Petting's as useful as she can hope to be until the relief subsides.
no subject
"Clothes?" finally pops out.
no subject
"Clothes and then food. Easy stuff. No stress."
no subject
It's a little hard to wrap his brain around.
Eventually, he just puts it aside instead of doing that, stepping out dressed in his clothes and bowing his head to her.
"The mess hall now?"

"Morning." Which makes it very hard to tell if he's noticed anything missing. He doesn't like to pry, even to suggest there's something to pry about.
no subject
"Morning!" He's even a little cheerful.
no subject
"You're--how're you?" There. Normal human interactions.

"I was just asleep. The only thing that's strange now is that I'm trying to find out everything that happened while I was asleep. I don't want to say something mean, after all."
no subject
"YOUR FACE!"
no subject
So he nods.
"Misty... fixed everything."
no subject
Bill adjusts his tie, nervously.
"HATE TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD CHANGE IF THEY'RE NOT FEELING NICE."
no subject
"She used her magic. So I don't think all wardens can do that."
He lifts his head and considers the question, though. Could all wardens do that, if only by asking the Admiral, perhaps? After all, he'd saved his life.
"Why, do you worry that they'd change you?"
no subject
Like hippie magic? Is that just a thing on her world, maybe?
"YEAH, DON'T YOU? WARDENS, HISTORICALLY, HAVE TURNED THEIR INMATES INTO ANIMALS FOR FUN, Y'KNOW. JUST BECAUSE IT HASN'T HAPPENED IN AWHILE DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN'T."
no subject
no subject
Doesn't understand.
no subject
If it isn't permanent, is it really all that harmful?

Luke has explained this!
