In the lowlands, nestled in the heat
Who: Beatrix Kiddo, Redeemer crew, Ronald Sandoval, Governor Narvin, Dr. Banner
Where: On a deserted island, of course
When: Day 1 of the Land Ho! breach; days 2 and 3 to come (stay tuned!)
Warnings: Potential hostage situations/kidnapping. Violence. Uh, pregnancy?
When the storm had risen Beatrix Kidd wasn't sure whether to thank God or curse His whims; the chaos afforded such ripe opportunity for escape, so easily seized by some of her fellow prisoners, and if it were not for her condition she might have found her way to freedom as well. As it was, as soon as the captain ordered the lifeboats deployed hers was the first cell unlocked. "Women and children first," the second mate had said, and at the moment she fulfilled both conditions. Her cold-blooded pirate reputation may have been well-earned, but the child she carried was an innocent British soul. Until she bore it no death sentence could be carried out, though a few less than sympathetic sailors remarked that it won't be long before she hangs.
And though hang her they might, they wouldn't allow her to come to harm yet. When the waves spilled over the sides and threatened to capsize the boat, one sailor wrapped his arms under her shoulders and held her steady against him. He meant to ensure her safety and instead gave her the opportunity to pickpocket his communicator, yet he still helped her from the sinking boat and nudged her toward land.
When the sea spat her out on the shore with all the other flotsam a sore ache resounded throughout her whole body and she fought to cough seawater from her lungs. But she was alive; the agitated stirring in her belly was reassurance her baby was alive. Fortune had smiled on her.
Or perhaps grinned as if at a particularly ironic joke. When Beatrix raised her eyes to examine her surroundings she realized she was not, in fact, alone; that some of the Redeemer crew had washed up nearby, and that her wrists were still loosely chained.
She had escaped drowning, but nothing else.
OOC: Starting with just two comment prompts. Keep your eyes peeled for more soon! But not literally peeled, although I'm sure some of the pirates will help you with that.

Day 1/for Sandoval
She had been asking to drink constantly, selfishly, far more frequently than she needed to. The reason was simple: when the sentinel standing watch turned to fetch it she bought a few seconds to compose her missive. Each request her guard obliged afforded her a few letters, and a lucky spill even gave her the time to send the message with a flourish.
A stolen communicator was a suspicious, risky, temporary measure. In no way was it a secure form of communication and she had not risked any identifying detail. Interception was imminent no matter what so she wrote one line, halfway between a private joke and a code. He'd know who sent it, what it meant.
"Let my deeds be witness of my worth."
ONE DAY I WILL GET THINGS RIGHT
It hopped to the sand and strode towards her confidently, looking up at her with one eye, and twisting to do it with the other. She was different shaped than last it saw, but it knew her well.
With a flap it lit up onto the nearest perch and started sideling towards her, giving her that look that birds tend to give that they can't help- a direct stare out of one side of its head.
AND THAT DAY IS TODAY <3
It was almost certainly the raven she remembered – the namesake Raven – but she was exhausted and uncomfortable to the point of pain and could have let her imagination get the better of her.
"I've nothing for you," she said to the approaching bird, half-smiling. "Not a scrap on me, and you won't pick my bones clean yet."

Then a moment later it was grooming her hair, as if it was trying to fix it back to something more familiar. No, no. Her feathers were supposed to lay like this.
It gave up and squawked and flapped when a guard came to shoo it, and as soon as the loud and terrible man was gone (and by "gone" the raven would say "no longer within swatting distance") he came toodling back to perch on Beatrix's knee.

When the raven settled on her shoulder and began preening at her unkempt hair she did laugh, shaking her head as the guard scared it away but reaching forward to stroke its feathers as it lights on her knee. "It's harming no one," she scolded the guard, with a tone that hinted very strongly that he ought not to argue. "Let it stay as it will."

Day 1/the beach, open
And right now it was a burden, a weight she couldn't shake despite the strain it placed on her. Despite the child's restless movement in her womb she gritted her teeth and prayed it wouldn't come now, that Providence would allow her one more chance for freedom first.
"Is it not cruel to hold a prisoner in chains as you have done, to let the metal cook my skin?" she asked aloud. "Surely the sun alone burns sufficiently."

He had no particular authority on the ship beyond what little his station gave him. The Captain ruled the little kingdom that was the Redeemer. But no one would dare tell him that he couldn't talk to the woman or offer her small kindnesses, like an extra crust of bread or drink of water.
"Ma'am." He politely assumed she was a woman wed, although he didn't inquire about the father. "I believe in chains is the usual place for a prisoner to reside. But under your particular delicate circumstances, I shall do what I can to ease your discomfort."

"Good sir, I doubt not the reason behind them," she agreed. "That the Crown looks unkindly upon me I will never deny, but these bonds are unnecessary. Even if they were loosed, what mischief am I fit to play upon you?"
adding a disposable NPC guard
"Very well. I cannot deny your claims. A woman thus indisposed should hardly be capable of overcoming both the guard and myself. And should you try to run--" although she scare looked capable of that, either, certainly not quickly "--I must warn you that I am armed with a pistol and was the best shot of my regiment."
With that, he turned to the guard and demanded the keys. The guard wavered, torn between the orders of his superior officer and the orders of the Governor, but in the end the Governor was here and his superior officer wasn't, so he relented.
"I had a daughter," he explained softly as he unlocked the shackles. "Blonde just as you are."

She lowered her eyes when Governor Narvin gave his ultimatum, nodding once. "I'd not venture to test your aim, sir," she replied softly, and stayed gentle as a lamb as he knelt to unlock her shackles. "What became of her?"

Day whatever/ HOLY SHIT BABIES
Delivering a baby on this godforsaken island.
Well, okay, he'll deal with it. He just won't like it.
ONOES!
He had given her a stick wrapped with a handkerchief to bite on, to muffle what were surprisingly slight noises coming out of her considering what she was going through. At least all the gore he had endured in his lifetime had prepared him to stand by through this, though he was tempted to hunt down William and have his head for being conveniently absent. Surely Beatrix wouldn't be opposed, after this.
OMG!
He certainly wouldn't trade his place for the woman's right now, pistol at his head or not.
"Surely a babe is too large to..."

Gripping his arm tight, Beatrix laid back and struggled to steadily breathe through the tension and pain throughout her body. She clenched her teeth so tight around the wooden bit that her jaw threatened to break, and with her free hand she reached forward to wring the physicker's coat.
Payback for the child's siring was the last thing on her mind; for now all she cared about was seeing herself and her baby through the effort of birth. "Hold on to me," she said suddenly, and said nothing more than that.

And time for a Dean rescue!
He stood at the crest of a hill, a steep slope that led into quick flowing water. That quick flowing water would eventually drop into a shallow waterfall, and there would be plenty of time to save the Governor (as per Beatrix's wishes) as well as time for Sandoval to make a hasty retreat. He just had to wait.

"If you kill me they shall hunt you down to the ends of the earth." This was not strictly speaking true. Adding the murder of a governor to his list of crimes would make reward for Sandoval's capture go up, yes, but ultimately Narvin knew that as far as the Crown was concerned, he was expendable. If he died, they'd simply send another, and perhaps a few Admirals would make speeches about the scourge of piracy and use his unfortunate demise to request further funds from Parliament.

He squinted at him. "Did you know that she was the Viper, or that I was the Raven? If not, now you do. If there is anything to renew a man's faith in Providence it's that we too Devils were brought together here again, and your one kind act has actually spared you damnation. I would reflect on that later, if I were you."
Not often did he let men walk away from him intact, very well alive. A few scrapes and bumps were far better than what else he was capable of.

He slipped from the woods, muttering prayers only to himself-- he'd been much among death today, and begged God that at least this small new life and its mother would be spared.

"Step forward slowly," she ordered, "and drop whatever arms you carry. I suggest you don't test my resolve."

Late day 2/Early day 3 for Sandoval
Her pistol and cutlass remained within easy reach at her sides, one for each hand. In the meanwhile she murmured a quiet lullaby to the restless newborn, kissing the little girl's forehead to soothe her.

"She's so small..." He said with the wonder of a man not thinking that it had to be wrestled out of a woman's body, despite seeing it happen. Instead, of a man knowing that it would have to become an adult, that it would have to be raised to proper size. That his child could other spend a life at see like he did, or never know the ocean at all.
He shifted her to the crook of his arm, touching her tiny palm with what felt like an enormous fingertip.

And then I left out a whole sentence....
