005 ◎ Santa make him hurry, tell him he can take the freeway down

So how does this...temporary thing work?
....maybe more importantly, where did the snow come from?

[ It's hard to tell exactly what part of the year it is when you're hurtling through space, but apparently they decorate here, or at least somebody does, which he supposes helps with that. There's a whole host of questions that goes with it -- how do you know, is any of it actually the same in space, does somebody just pick it at random -- but they don't seem like especially important questions so he doesn't bother asking.
He heard the announcement. Temporary for now, then, not that it really makes much difference to him either way, but it also means they don't have a File. Which sounds less ominous than it could, but that's a problem to deal with when it comes. If it comes.
He Settles In. Apparently he's stuck here now, better get used to it, and he still doesn't sleep in his own cabin, still tends towards restless nights and too much caffeine, but he's at least tipped over into Functional again; he's stuck, better get used to it, so he finds a new routine, or at least solidifies the one he'd started. Early morning run, breakfast, gym. Quick shower, then some 'free time'. Racing games this time, something mindless, and the rest of the day is filled with more of the same. Meals when they're supposed to be, finding ways to keep busy the rest of the time. He even stops in the library a couple times a week, even if he mostly just wanders aimlessly; it's more free time than he's had in years, and honestly he's not actually sure what to do with it. ]

... Also I think that's some weather control thing?
no subject
[ Yeah, he knows. Warden stuff, whatever that's supposed to be. But he doesn't like not knowing what to expect. ]
Didn't realize they had temp positions open.
Weather control?
no subject
Yeah, I think the Admiral can change the weather in the Barge to fit with the season?

So you just...what. Cycle through until you find something that works?

Yeah. It's just a lot, that's all. You get dragged here, fed the company line, and it's just a lot of weird fucking shit, you know? I'm supposed to get 'helped', and there's no explanation of what that is, just me left to myself and now this...temp? That I haven't heard from, so that's going well.

I ... yeah, not sure what's going on there. I'm willing to listen, if you wanna talk or ... whatever.

[ It's not, but that's all he's willing to really get into at the moment. But he considers the offer anyway, and shrugs. ]
I'm Barry.
[ It's not an answer, but it's not a rebuff either. ]

Nothing about this place makes sense.
oops i forgot my smallcaps
THERE'S LOTS OF THINGS IN LIFE THAT MAKE NO SENSE. HUMANS STILL DON'T KNOW WHY GRAVITY WORKS, YOU KNOW!
I DO. I KNOW HOW IT WORKS.
oh nooo

BUT DO THEY KNOW WHY?
no subject
Does the why really matter?

IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHY SOMETHING WORKS, YOU CAN'T MAKE IT WORK DIFFERENTLY!

[And by the tone of his voice, he's not exactly thrilled by any of it, either.]

Magically, that is. It feels like snow on your skin, of course, but it's not... driven by natural forces. I can sense those.

What's the difference?
