ORTL001 - video
[ The video starts in, of all places, the casino. The camera has clearly been positioned in a very good spot to watch as two gloved hands go through a number of different shuffles. After a few, though, he rights the camera and shows his smiling face.]
So.
There's a casino on board. And it is beaut. i. ful. But- [ he starts shuffling again, absently now, no longer the focus] not much use in gambling when you don't have any kind of monetary system going on. Now, normally [ he spreads the cards out in a fan on the table] on a space ship, at least in my experience, what you gamble is chores. But [ he flips them back over before gathering them back into his hands] everyone here I talk to seems to be just... itching for something to do. So.
[ He puts the cards down and pulls up a stack of chips, splaying them out in front of the camera similarly.]
What about dares? [ He flips the chips to the other side with a flourish.] Nothing harmful, of course. Not trying to start any trouble. Just... a slightly more grown up version of truth or dare. Something fun. [ He flips the chips one more time, this time using enough force to launch one into the air for him to snatch it up with one hand. He holds the chip up.]
You start with however many dares you're willing to do... and see where the evening takes you. Every chip gets you a dare from someone else... but then that chip is theirs. [ He flips the chip and lets it fall just as he lifts the others and the whole thing tumbles over like a line of dominoes.] It's all honor system, of course but... where's the fun without a little risk. Anyone interested?
[Obviously, Kepler is to be found in the casino, as he mentioned, but he's also dutifully working his shifts in the lounge and it's rare for him to go a day without stopping by the gym. He pops into the library pretty regularly, though usually just to pick up a book before slipping out. Otherwise, he eats like everyone else in the dining hall, spends at least a little while every night stargazing on the deck, and if he can get into the Enclosure, it's a good night. All quiet on the Kepler front, it seems like. ]

Lounge
Kepler's beeps around the same time: another WHY? and the triangle looks him dead in the eyes.
Ohohohoho.]

Then he's pulling it up in between scrubbing the bar counter, taking a look and-
Aha.
He makes a point of staring right back at him as he presses send on his own message.]

Not for years. Learned it a while back. Great group of ladies who taught it to me.
I'm up for giving it a shot if you'll jog my memory a little.

We'll need a few others for the game to be worthwhile, but I am happy to give a little lesson.

We’ll have to see if we can round up enough for proper Texas hold’em.

I may need some instruction first, depending on the game.

It's all for a laugh.
Do you know any games?
no subject
Oh, just a few basic card games. Poker and the like. Cards are nice and portable, easy to play in the mess on board ships.
But I learn pretty quickly.

Once he's done stretching, he trots his way over to the treadmills, picking one a couple away from her with a mute wave: close enough to chat but also far away enough to ignore him and do your own thing. He doesn't strike up a conversation, though, not automatically.

She gives it a moment, long enough for him to hit a rhythm, but then does pipe up:
"Get many chips so far?"
