[Flint’s expression is stony; his eyes are hard. He’s thought about Teddy’s post for a while, and come to a strategy that befits the situation he’s found himself in on the Barge. Injury doesn’t frighten him and death is meaningless here. He tells himself that this is a rational action, a logically-considered tactic to address a problem that wasn't resolved through words, but below the surface there's a less altruistic motive as well. This gives him an excuse to fight, to bloody someone else and feel righteous about it, and he needs the fight.]
It has come to my attention that some use the people in the Enclosure to hone their fighting skills, to vent their frustrations, to glory in combat. The people of the Enclosure, however, are given no choice. Their purpose is dictated by those who would use them for their own ends.
But I do have a choice, and I am making it now. If you wish to fight, if you wish to spill blood, come fight me instead.
I’ll be on the deck.
[He knows he may not win; he’s seen enough of the skills and powers some of the crew on this ship possess to be cognizant of his chances. But he fulfills his objective whether he wins or loses, and he’ll keep fighting as long as he can still stand.]
[[OOC: If your character might take Flint up on the offer, I’m happy to either thread out fights or handwave, whichever you prefer. If you want to handwave a fight, we can talk it over to sort out what happens, what injuries result, etc.]]

The people of the enclosure are sock puppets. Fuck me, do they even have sock puppets on Earth?
[Which is to say: come at him.]
no subject
[He's been on the Barge long enough now to no longer be bothered by phrases such as "on Earth," spoken like there are other options.]
And from what I hear of the Enclosure, the Punch and Judy comparison is apt. [If the puppets being pummeled by their puppet masters were potentially living and aware.]

[He avoids saying Admiral Hennessey's name, but even mentioning him obliquely cuts deep. It was more formal training than most men of his station could have hoped to receive, thanks entirely to Hennessey's patronage, but still a less structured regimen than any modern training would be.
The idea of formal training in hand-to-hand combat simply doesn't occur to him at all. In his world, one learns it in childhood scraps and later street brawls or not at all.]

I think. Unless you don't remember it.

I don't believe we have. I think I would remember if we'd crossed paths before.
[Unless this is another oddity of the Barge.]

[He's under no illusions about the ultimate outcome of this. It doesn't deter him in the slightest.]

As for fighting you instead, I'm pretty sure you can't provide the experience of planning and directing a planetary assault, or a space battle between opposing fleets, or a prisoner extraction from a starship or an orbiting containment facility. Which means your offer's useless to me.
Once you've recovered from this, though, if you're still interested in bloodshed just for the hell of it, feel free to look me up.
no subject
Once I've recovered from this, I'll do that.
[For bloodshed for the hell of it, but also because he wants to hear more about space battles and directing planetary assaults and learn how warfare changes when the whole of the heavens becomes a battlefield.]

You're protecting the simulations with your own flesh and blood? I mean, I conduct training sessions almost every night in the gym, but I should hope that people aren't just out to spill blood as you say.

[Nothing about this is training for Flint. He wants to beat the shit out of someone, or have the shit beaten out of him. When fighting for survival there's no room for guilt or grief or self-hatred. It's in those moments that his mind is as close to peace as he knows, at least for that short while.]
