10. [Public video] (backdate to slightly before port announcement); cw for suicidal ideation
[After Scott not showing up for their regular quiet moments in the early morning with hot drinks on the deck, Missy goes looking. Her initial thought is exasperation he's fallen into a coma or gotten himself killed again. But then his cabin simply isn't there. After pacing around the ship most of the day, she eventually decides to say something over the network.
She seems calm at first.]
Scott Summers' cabin door is missing and I can't find him anywhere.
[Then her expression twists into something vicious and accusatory.]
He said some of you were going home with him to help.
[She knows how transdimensional ships work, and that in theory, those people could show up right when Scott needs them. But she keeps replaying in her mind Scott admitting his plans weren't personal, or concrete, and the image of his gaunt, defeated figure slumped to a prison floor talking about being dead weight.
Her hands are shaking with rage when she flips off her communicator.]
***
After her initial rush of anger cracks, she goes to Nico's cabin and shut herself in one of the tiny bunks, curls up, and stares at a wall for a very long time. It seems...safer than a lot of other options.
((OOC: Missy will respond to network replies, just probably not immediately.))

[Audio]
[A chill comes over Len that has nothing to do with his cooler temperature. He sounds angry. Upset.]
[Audio]
For once, I'd like very much to be wrong. Please do prove my mistake.
Re: [Audio]
[Silence, as Len attempts to contact Scott.
When none of his calls make it through, he heads up to where he knows Scott's cabin is, coming up next to Missy on the way over]
Move.

There's a creak as her cabin door opens, a pause as it sinks in that she can't feel him, that she won't.
Then it starts to fray.] He would have - he promised he'd tell me -
[Then it starts to break.] He just disappeared, didn't he? He doesn't have anyone with him. He doesn't -
No. [Fierce, and bleak, and choked.] It's not fair.
Voice
No, it isn't.
[After a second she adds, still weary but with a touch of wonder-] You know, it didn't even occur to me he might have left without saying goodbye?
Voice
It doesn't matter how rough her voice is when she replies, how small she sounds. At the moment, not much seems to matter at all.]
He did it to me, once. I was so angry. It felt like... [Like he'd died, but her voice chokes before she can say it, because she's felt it for real on the Barge now, and seen it happen in multiple futures, and resigned herself to feeling it in her own.]
Voice
[No. She doesn't really believe that. She doesn't really understand why, but Scott had tried to damn hard to meet her on her own terms.]
Or maybe he learned.

Iris is outside, on the floor opposite Nico’s door, hunched and hugging her knees. She has her own feelings about Scott, but it’s Missy she’s worried about. From the other side of the cabin door, she can’t tell Missy’s here at all, and right now that makes her feel sick.

Someplace new. Want to go blow off some steam?

How did Jedao already get all the way out there, and up there, with a goddamn chair? Why did he drag the chair with him? Just for this joke? To show off? Something more obscure? It's hard to tell. But this is where he is. And it's somewhere new. And Jedao is used to playing prey, more used to it right now than he's been in a long time, even if he'll come to regret it. He usually does.
Catch him if you can.]

In a rare moment of practicality trumping style, she dons the more androgynous look of a black button-up shirt and trousers, and shoes better suited for running and climbing.
And then she's off, deep into the woods, to find any of trace of Jedao.

Walking into rooms, he loses the sound of Scott's heartbeat due to the restrictions on board, but there's a certain echo that he's come to identify to tell him when that's the cause. This, however, had been the sharp non-existence of a sound, the moment between one beat and the next suddenly stretching out endlessly.
He'd thought Scott had died. He'd gone investigating.
And then, he'd wondered if he was insane. Her message on the comms tells him he's not. Which means that he has preparations to make.
A Luthor doesn't keep his promises. But an El certainly would.]
Is there anything you'd like me to bring to him? A message or an item? You have my word I won't read it if you'd like to pass a letter.
private
Then I'd like you to pass along a letter, thank you. Even if it's just to tell him I doubt graduating would involve acquiring compunctions about finding a way to yell at him if he does something truly stupid that gets him killed.
private
Certainly.
It will be a few weeks while I make my preparations, but I'll take it as soon as you're ready just in case.
