Video - AN EASTER MIRACLE

[The camera is switched on out on deck, and swivels around with all the shakey-cam realness of an inexperienced liveblogger to point at a sleepy and dishevelled looking Rhys, still wearing his pyjamas.]

Okay, I could tell I overslept a bit, but I can't help but notice that it's fucking spring up here? Is this a flood or did I literally go down for half a season? I mean--

[He pauses. Rubs a hand down his face, agitated.]

This is such a stupid question but things change overnight here: Could someone please just tell me what date it is?

Elijah has to go looking for him, for the first time in a while.

"...It's April fourth."

Rhys glances back at Elijah, stuck directly between the weirdness of April fucking fourth, and the fact that that means it's been weeks-- months? Over a full month at least since they actually exchanged words.

"Hey. I mean-- Morning."

It's absolutely afternoon.

"Sorry for not waiting for you, I didn't realise it had been-- I mean I honestly just-- woke up worried I'd missed lunch. April fourth, what the hell..."

"Good afternoon, Rhys," Elijah says gently, and puts an arm around him. "How are you feeling?"

"Weird." Rhys answers, but leans into the arm around him, "I mean, I've been worse? Physically I jut feel kind of like I overslept. I just hate losing like, this huge chunk of time here."

Because who could have vanished forever over the course of a month and a half? Who's murdered all their loved ones? Who's graduated? Time half stands still on the Barge, and half works in overdrive.

"I understand," Elijah says. "I'd catch you up, but...well, I'm not the most attentive person. I know Betelgeuse is in a coma at present."

"Yeah," Rhys says absent mindedly, "He never likes feeling left out of anything. Why don't you catch me up on you?"

"Jasper has been back to Earth for several years. Of course, that only reflected a few days' absence here." He sighs. "She's changed...physically, but otherwise things have seemed quite static."

"Wait, years?"

Rhys pulls back a little, perplexed.

"Like, years of getting into fights with people and all... her usual schtick?"

That doesn't feel like something you can stay static throughout.

Elijah shakes his head.

"As best I can tell? Years of isolating herself while the rest of the Gems on Earth adjusted to a new way of life. There's peace. She has nobody to fight for."

Not that that's something she's really come to terms with, like, at all.

"Did you ever point out to her-- she'd have had this same problem if her side ever won the complete intergalactic war thing. I mean, sooner or later, you gotta figure out what to do with yourself..."

"I don't think that's necessarily true, for her," Elijah says. "Assuming the war for Earth had been won by 'her side', that all organic life had been annihilated and the planet used as feedstock for a new generation of Gems....there are other planets to repeat the process. Jasper could have been repeating the same cycles for millennia to come."

According to my calendar, today is a religious holiday which Shall Not Be Named, so clearly that makes you...

[Laszlo winces, holding his hands over his ears, with little wisps of smoke coming through his fingers.]

I guess I haven't seen your dumb face in a while. [well she was also gone for several years from her perspective, back to her life on Earth like the Barge never existed.]

Do dates even really matter here?

[Oh. She has horns by the way. Well, one and a half - one's broken. And a few turquoise splotches that are definitely new.]

It's a good way of tracking how long you guys have all been running around unsupervised. Like, when did you get the fresh coat of paint? Couple of extra stalactites going on there?

Guess the Admiral decided I needed a vacation back home. It doesn't matter. I'm back now, stuck here again same as always.
