New Medi-Cal applicants with Unsatisfactory Immigration Status may only qualify for restricted Medi-Cal coverage, which covers emergency, pregnancy-related and nursing home care.
Lawfully present immigrants whose income is less than 100% of the Federal Poverty Level are no longer eligible for premium tax credits.
Regardless of income level, full repayment will now be required for excess advance premium tax credit payments. Previous rule eliminated that allowed partial payments for those with incomes below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Implementation of Senate Bill 43 begins. Expands criteria for those with behavioral health conditions who may be civilly detained under grave disability to include severe substance use disorder and inability to provide personal safety or medical care.
Homeless Services and Housing Department officially launches.
First application period ends for Emergency Rent Relief program.
Partial government shutdown ends.
Measure A Spending Plan for FY 2026-27 approved by Board of Supervisors.
Second application period for LA County’s Emergency Rent Relief program opens.
Legal Permanent Residents are no longer allowed to apply for Small Business Administration loans. Eligibility is now only for U.S. Citizens and U.S. Nationals with their principal residence in the U.S., territories, or possessions.
Second application period ends for the Emergency Rent Relief program.
CalFresh eligibility changes for non-citizens begins.
CalFresh work requirements expanded for those 18-64 years of age including veterans, transition-aged youth exiting foster care, homeless individuals, and adults with dependents age 14 years or older.
Start date for the Behavioral Health Services Act enacted through the passing of Prop 1. The BHSA replaces the previous Mental Health Services Act.
Some adults 19 years of age or older without Satisfactory Immigration Status will no longer receive full scope dental benefits through Medi-Cal. Check here to see if your immigration status is subject to the change.
Immigrants considered to have Unsatisfactory Immigration Status when applying for Medi-Cal or CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) will now include refugees, humanitarian parolees, asylum grantees, battered non-citizen, trafficking victims and other non-citizens.
Federal contributions to emergency care for undocumented residents will drop from 90% to 50%, leading to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for public hospitals and health care statewide.
Emergency Housing Vouchers program set to end impacting approximately 1,400 households.
