August 29th - Griffin Dyeworks' Fiber Frolic

Registration is now open! Visit http://www.griffindyeworks.com/wor… to register today!

Griffin Dyeworks is happy to host a second fun-filled fiber day with classes in spinning, inkle & tablet weaving, embroidery, knitting, sewing or bring that UFO (unfinished object) & jump-start a favorite project. There will be lots of classes and make-and-take projects to finish things on the spot and learn something new!

Class offerings are currently being scheduled - we'll let everyone know when it's ready!

Buy/Sell/Trade
Have an inkle loom that’s been gathering dust? Bring it to sell or trade! Have some tablet weaving cards sitting around? Bring them! If you have lost interest, someone
else is sure to want to play with them! Bring all to share! We’ll have supplies on hand – many for free, some for sale.

Advertise!
Submit something to share for the tote bags: show or guild announcements, classes, business cards, flyers, catalogs, samples, fun things, etc. We’ll tell you how many copies to send closer to the event.

Entry: $25 at the door, includes snacks, beverages & lunch. Pre-register before July 31, 2009 for only $20!

Lunch menu to be announced. Beverages include hot coffee, lemonade, hot and iced tea. There are nearby restaurants to gather with friends for dinner after the event.

Dress is casual – attitude is the same. This is a one-day mini-Fiber Retreat with the same mix of classes, activities & informality. Your activities don’t even need to be fiber-related if you wish to bring a non-fiber project such as beading, leatherwork, or other crafts.

If you have something to sell, contact us for vendor tables.

Sign up for the Fiber Frolic Newsletter at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fibe… to keep up to date.

See you there!

fabric stores

Hey All,

I know this is a knitting forum, but I was wondering if any of you know of a good fabric store in/around Long Beach/Los Angeles. I would like a nice selection of some organic fabrics suitable for a baby sling, if that isn't available, then just some quality fabric with good selections will do. Any recommendations? Please don't say Jo-ann, I can't stand that place.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

hand made buttons

does anyone know how to make buttons out of yarn? my great grandma once showed me. she wrapped yarn around the handle of a knife, removed the tightly wound yarn and then wrapped it all the way around. i cant quite figure it out now though, she showed me ten years ago and she has since passed. thanks for any help you can offer!

Pictures! Fiber Retreat! Azalia's shop??

I have *finally* updated my Flickr account with some crafty photos of spinning and dyeing stuff (recent hard drive crash has temporarily eaten my knitting pictures! Wah!), so I wanted to share those:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/there…

And I also wanted to let everyone know that the 3rd Griffin Dyeworks retreat is this June 22-24 outside of Castaic. I've been to the first two and had a fabulous time - it's relaxing and yet I always leave with my brain full and completely re-inspired.

This year, there will be Tunisian crochet, naalbinding (ancient precursor to knitting), sprang (a type of netting), and of course dyeing with natural and commercial dyes, lots of spinning classes, and who knows what else.

More info, as well as pictures & videos from past retreats, available here:

http://www.griffindyeworks.com/ret…

BTW, anyone know what happened to Azalia's yarn shop that was on Washington in Culver City? I thought it was moving, but it seems to have disappeared completely..

knittin' deal

LA knitters... not sure if they are still there (as dollar store stock tends to change so quickly) but i bought the Stitch-n-Bitch page-a-day calendar at the 99cents only store on Wilshire and Fairfax a few days ago. i saw the stack of them and thought they were there because maybe it was the 2006 one? (which would be ok for a buck because the patterns are still relevant!) but it was the 2007 one! VERY EXCITING. ther was a whole big huge stack of them when i got mine.

just a tip for anyone who is in the area and wants a stitch n bitch calendar for a buck!

My Newest Knitting Needle Creations To Share... :)

Hello, and Happy Holidays!

As some of you here may know, I used to create knitting needle cases every week for sale on ebay, featuring my original illustrated artwork on them. However, I have gotten alot of commission works, so this has prevented me from creating my cases like I used to.
But! The good news is, I made a handful of different cases recently, and they are available, all at once, both in my ebay and etsy.com stores! You do not have to wait for one to made each week any longer, and I have several different ones to choose from. In addition, each case has one-of-a-kind art on it, not a copy.
I also have a circular knitting needle case up this week for auction on ebay called,'Honey Toast Girl'. Below is the link to that work, as well as my etsy store for more cases!:

(There are more cases to choose from in my etsy store, by the way)

Have a great day!
